I'm not sure that I agree with the assessment that these ever really went out of style: The implication here is that eat-in kitchens and islands are mutually exclusive, which isn't the case.

The trend that I see focuses more on mobility and multi-use space - which fits in well with the other trend of home sizes getting smaller instead of bigger.
But many islands (including the one at my mom's and the peninsula at my dad's) have a seating area included. What I've seen lately is islands which are not installed, and put on casters for mobility. Some of these can serve as additional seating or act as the table for the eat in kitchen as well.

Sounds like the concerns aren't with the idea, but the execution. A different kind of candle would solve all of the commenter concerns!

There are plenty of tea light and votive candles with metal separators, and these won't drip wax onto succulents or burn the rope.

My first rule of thumb is that it has to have a caption relevant to the image. Then I'll check out the full pin and open the pinned website to see the pin is from its original source.

@StationeryFiend: I've had problems pinning from certain websites too: AT, D*S, even my website. I've tried a different browser and it's normally okay.

Even if your bedroom is a multi-purpose room, there are still things that can make the sleeping space stress free, like:
1) Don't use your bed for work, internet surfing, etc. Use it for sleep only. I've struggled with insomnia for years, and when I'd use my bed as multi-purpose, it'd take 3-4 hours to fall asleep, now it probably takes me 1 or 2.
2) Hang curtains. Not just in front of windows, but if it helps, block off the work space in the room when it's time for bed.
3) Make the bed. If I'm getting things done in the bedroom when it's not made, the bed is terribly distracting. Keeping it made also helps keep me from using it for other things too.

I have to say, I don't love any of these. But each bedroom reflects very well its inhabitant.
If I had to choose, I'd say somewhere between David Bowie and Neko Chase.

This is really cool! It's amazing what you can do with a few replacement parts. Makes me think about my current laptop a little more!

If I remember correctly from introducing this project, the in-laws had rented the condo out, hated pretty much everything in it, and let college kids break everything.

I'm a little excited to see what you decide for this one!

This would be really nice for out-of-closet storage too - if closet space is too limited, these could just go on a wall behind a curtain and would definitely help maximize.
