FYI - I have seen knock offs with slightly rounded caps and flat caps - any cap at all = not authentic.

One easy way help tell if it is authentic is the tube ends (especially at the arm rests) If there are applied caps on the ends of the tubes that look like you could pry them off then it is def. a knock off. The originals (or I guess a very very good knock off) will have welded (and ground smooth) ends (no caps). That level of detail is pretty much only on originals - and most people don't pay attention to that.

I'd love to listen to Sufjan Stevens "Put the Lights on the Tree"...actually his entire "Songs for Christmas" box set...It would sound even sweeter coming out of a White Geneva Sound System

It's funny because I thought of the Falkland lamp too when I first read the post - for $300 you can get a design classic or a mediocre Target lamp that will probably not appreciate with time.

I know it is a different type of lamp and maybe a person really needs a floor lamp instead of a suspended lamp, but if I were the one buying a lamp today and had $300 to spend, it would be the Falkland hands down (I've been looking at them lately...)

I too preferred Carissa's loft, although (aside from lack of accessories) I felt hers may be a little TOO trendy - but I felt she was really creative - the ping pong table, the nest the cork wall, nice kitchen. Aside from Carissa and Goil - I felt the show should have been called "Top Decorator" - The only things Matt really ever "built" were floors. I knew this show was a joke on the Kid's Room Episode when the pastiche "Pirate Theme Room" won. That was on of the Episodes i actually felt Carissa really should have won.

Lisa, you are right in terms of first impressions, but as I stated above in my post LONGEVITY from everyday use may be a key thing to consider - I kinda learned my lesson, but I would probably buy a knock off again in the future depending on my finances and the piece of furniture...so who knows.

Good Questions: Should I Spring For a Knockoff?

I can speak from some experience when it comes to high design knock-offs. About ten years ago I bought a Breuer Wassily Chaise knock of for $150.00 and I loved it at the time.

The first obvious differences from the Original and my knock off were the details and connections (steel ends had chrome caps and were not welded shut) The other issue was the leather - not as thick or soft. The leather strap back support broke about four years ago and I have yet to get it repaired. For all the people I know who have the original (3 much older than my knock-off), their leather is still in great shape.

So as most have said, you really are paying for quality. Don't get me wrong, I loved my chair and it served me well for 7 years (and I intend to get it fixed next year) but QUALITY and longevity is the main issue...and Yes, I did tell all of my visitors that it was a knock off of an original - no head hanging though!

My main problem with Matt is he seems most the like a decorator of all of them. He rarely does anything architectural to enhance the rooms. Like Goil, Carissa and Andrea usually BUILD additional architectural features for their designs.
Sure Matt is sophiticated to some degree, but manufacturing flooring seems his only building expertise...
