@ YUVING, the cabinets are Ikea Abstrakt in dark grey although somehow they look like a grey blue to me. The ceiling beams are original to the house and over 100 years old! the flooring is a dark brown cork that is steam colored so it's the same color all the way through, much better with our big dog bailey's claws so when he nicks the floor it's still dark brown;)

@ Rob, thanks sis, love you

thanks to D2 an CT as well;)

@SGY, good observation but no soggies, it's coated with 3 coats of spray polyurethane and we have a really good ventilation fan and highly insulated walls, so no condensation in this bathroom!

@ Christineoc, the color is Benjamin Moore "thunderbird" I think the color is named after the car color of the classic 1955 ford thunderbird. Has your home posted yet? Thanks for the compliments but of course you should post.

@orangepower32, haha, yes architects, getting ready to have our first kiddo in July, already designing custom baby gates for the loft ladder/stair ;) I have a feeling our speakers and record player will be the first casualties

@ thorndale, funny we actually do get CSA boxes once every 2 weeks;) I think I understand your comment though, we're slowly adding pieces to make it more homey. Right now it's more like a blank slate to add special pieces over time

@ everyone else, thanks for the kind and supportive comments, its great to see all these small homes in one place

One of my personal mantras "buy nice or buy twice” also reminds me of a little piece of Japanese architectural history called sumptuary laws. Sumptuary laws have been around throughout the ages in different civilizations. They sought to limit how much of one thing that a person or family could have (derivative of consumption), therefore those people tried to make that one thing as nice and long lasting as possible. We live in a seemingly opposite mind set today, where many things are disposable. Buying once also allows you to have things that develop character over time.

I have noticed that the city of Seattle is using these bags for all of their new street trees that they are planting in our neighborhood. seems to be working well.

yeah the mitsubishis have been around for quite awhile and overseas before they became popular here. I think LG offers better aesthetics and they also have inverter type which allows variable fan speed.

Hi Jason,

I share your thoughts on what's available for sheds these days. I'm an architect and recently designed a modern shed for some friends, we'll probably start building it soon. You might get a kick out of reading this post. It's my wife's blog but she let me post this once;) http://chezerbey.com/2011/04/20/northwest-shed/

@ SJP, thanks for the support, I too am puzzled by some comments on our bathroom, our toilet paper art is still in the same shape as when we installed it over a year ago! If you're going to make one, I just picked up some spray cans of clear polyurethane sealer. Good luck!

mini-split ductless heat pumps are the cats meow for energy efficiency. I specify the LG art cools quite often. It's key to get the "inverter" type which means it's variable speed which is more energy efficient with less on/off cycling. They're efficient and stylish.
