I just learn that if you are striping screws it mean the bit or screw drive you're using is to small. You should use the biggest bit that will fit in the slots. It will over lap the screw a little.

To me this is screaming for a diorama. Or maybe a shrine.
Let me honest it’s visually it’s awkward to have a framed whole over your fireplace. And if you get right down it’s odd to have a pretend chimney for a gas fire place. You could go for the good taste option and ripe out every thing that’s pretending to be something its not and pick new style appropriate finishes. But where’s the fun in that.
Fill that silly whole with a diorama. Embrace kitsch and spectacular spectacular. I envision a few plastic fauns with big eyes nestled in a vine filled forest. You could paint the frame hot pink, cover the in sides with pieces of mirror, and add mini velvet curtain pulled to one side. You can put that outlet to good use with a rotating or dancing dolls and twinkling lights. Imagine the possibilities.
Have fun.

This isn’t the same bed but I think it has a similar intention and it’s made by some one local.

I agree that the sofa has good bones but unless you’re 70 and live in Boca you have to change that fabric.
I generally don’t like slip covers. They have never look smooth enough and move around. If getting it professional reupholstered is not an option, I would suggest doing it yourself. If you don’t feel like you have the chops to reupholster the whole couch, you may be able to get away with painting the body of the couch and recovering the cushions and making new armrest covers.
I would recommend painting the body of the couch a dark color to limit the amount of texture that shows. You could use the current armrest and cushion covers as pattern to make the new ones. I also recommend tufting the cushions which I think may hide some of the wear and add some structure.
I also agree that you need to move the pictures above the sofa and the chair down. Generally pictures should be centered at eye level.

I have a lint brush like this
http://www.drugstore.com/qxp75941_334918_sespider/evercare/magik_brush_2_sided_lint_brush.htm
It looks similar to fur fighter, it’s bristly in one direction and not the other.
Besides clothes I use it on my couch and duvet. It works like magic.

I love the idea, I wish you could also rent a baby. I wouldn't want either for more than a weekend, but they sure are cute.

I was at Ikea over the weekend and saw these and other wall stickers. They all looked fun, I was tempted, but you have to bay multiple packages to make any thing interesting, and then it’s too spendy for stickers.
My favorites were the poppies.

Wish I could find where to get on of these. Every night I have to race to brush my teeth and wash my face before I get scalded. I’m going to print the picture and do some sleuthing around the city.
There can be no water mixing in the bowl of my 100 year old sink that then go into my mouth. The idea gives me the chills.

I don’t think I’d buy either. The last time a bought an upholstered chair from Ikea it smelled strongly of plastic and perm. It stunk up my apartment for three solid weeks. It was awful. I don’t trust either chair not to be stinky.

I generally I agree with the principal that owning is not better than renting. I am a renter and happy I choose to stay a renter. Most of my friends who bought homes are pressuring me to do the same. They usually start asking me when I’m going to buy right after complaining about how all their money goes into the house, how they would like to take a job in another city but don’t think they will be able to sell, or missed a whole day of work waiting for the plumber. Also a lot of people I know had to make compromises when they bought, they live in not so safe neighborhoods, not close enough to public transport for an easy trip work or walking distance to the grocery store. I weighed the costs vs the benefits and renting is the right chose for me, and it isn’t an irresponsible financial decision.

Not only do I see this as a personal decision but also from the point of view of a city planner. Neighborhoods with high ownership directly result in neighborhoods with more civically engaged residents, better maintained properties, and more stable population. In this respect the outcomes of ownership are positive, and therefore are and should be encouraged through mortgage interest tax breaks (on your income tax, not your property tax) and mortgage assistance.

One major disagreement I have with Krugman is that he sights these tax breaks as part of the cause of sprawl. You can site many misguided policies of the federal government for causing sprawl but not tax breaks. The most blatant is the transportation bill which makes it is easier to get funding for new construction (exurban off ramp or Hwy extension) than for maintenance (city streets). The end result being property in the suburbs development has a hidden federal subsidy in that the cost of the infrastructure to get there is not reflected in the cost of the home.

I also disagree with Krugmen’s entire paragraph that ends with “investors who want to provide rental housing are on their own.” There are numerous funding sources for developers and owner of rental housing, and even more for lower income housing, there are also many way to get assistance for renters.

I have used to many words to say there are benefits to both renting and owning but I would trust an economist to help you make the choice.

These look pretty easy to install and are not that expensive: http://www.eltlivingwalls.com/
But I bet you could build something similar with plastic troughs and chicken wire. Sedums are a easy plant to grow if you don’t want to water often: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedum

I love these tiles especially the Vine Street ones. I first saw them in Mica on Vine in Over the Rhine. If you are able you should defiantly check it out.
I miss the Natti, It always exciting to see it show up in the things I read.
Did you know it's already spring there. My friend said she already saw flowers on her trees.
I might be home sick.

There is an interesting lamp in the back ground of the image with the 3 models in white cotton dresses and the designer. It looks like a red desk lamp but its huge. Does any one have an idea who makes it, it isn't sourced.

And now for something completely different

I would like to add to all this domino hate. Usually their small homes are 1,000sf and that’s a large home to me. I live happily in 375sf and would like to find a home magazine that relates to me. Recently domino displayed the home of an actress that was more my size, and the girl had no closets. How can you have no closets? There must be something better out there. Does any one have any suggestions?
