LOVE! the moss green chest against the cool grey wall. Now wondering if I could re-do my bedroom dresser...

Crisp Color Combo: Deep Green + Pale Gray

I love the vibe and personality. It IS a lot of particle board which I just imagine picking my clothes-especially the bar stools. Love the juxtaposition of the fancy dining room chandelier against it, though. The kitchen is a dream as is his adorable grey-snouted dog. Overall an inspiring, creative space.

Love the aesthetic but, as someone with two dark haired dogs and oblivious teenagers, can't imagine trying to keep them presentable.

Love the look. Might be hard to keep clean, though.

We gained an appreciation for Pop Art after seeing a well-curated exhibit at The High Museum in Atlanta several years ago. I didn't really "get it" until I saw some of the pieces in person. Fun indeed.

Loving the color I'm seeing in these few gorgeous photos. Will definitely be picking this up.

Which also completely supports kariwk's train of thought regarding architecture that "incorporates a variety of elements" and there is "probably not be a "right" or "wrong" way to go."

Thanks Boulder Mike. I was just on the library's website and saw the picture. Very exciting! I love the fact that it is vernacular architecture which also explains why I was having trouble defining its style in a traditional sense.

Boulder Mike, thanks for the link. We moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and couldn't believe the absence of air conditioning here. Everyone told us you "don't need it" and "just open the windows" but after three sweaty summers, adding AC is the only renovation we've done so far.

kariwk, It's more shotgun. http://bit.ly/jpEnkS, siobhan, Thanks for the links. I've been putting off going through old records because I'd heard there was a fire (doesn't seem like that's always the case?) and many were destroyed. Wheaton, I love the idea of it being Italianate, we were in Florence a couple of months ago and everything is just so gorgeous. We kept thinking, if we decided to go that way with the reno, it could work really well.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your comments so far. The storefront idea is one we haven't considered. We love the brick too!

I agree that painting the walls a color would make a huge difference. Pink would pop but, if that's too scary for you, try green, blue, orange or yellow. You have such a neutral palette, you can really do any color on your walls.

I also suggest removing the doors from some of the cabs to create open shelving for a visual break. If you can remove the cabinets from above the sink altogether it would also give you some nice breathing room. It would be a great space to hang pots and stainless utensils.

Lastly, I understand that you don't want to invest a lot of money into this existing kitchen but if you removed the cabinets from above the stove it would also open the space. It would require you to replace the vent with something a little more architectural. Then tile just the area behind the stove up to the ceiling or add a stainless backsplash. It would give the space a completely different
feel.
