The best time to find a tool you need is before you need it. Having a good, basic tool set is the start. Adding to it only makes life easier as the projects get more varied or more complex. The benefit of acquiring tools in advance of needing them is the ability to get them at reasonable prices. For example, at Canadian Tire, a local source for tools among other things, weekly specials can have tools going for up to 70% off. These are often top quality tools including name brands and not cheapies. Being on a budget, this works especially well for me and it's worth regularly tracking sales in my town. Of course, this is an investment over time and some won't see the value, but for those who do, this is something to keep in mind. It's usually easier to loan tools than borrow them. I purchase boxes economically from our local box recycler. I limit myself to 1 or 2 sizes of boxes when I go. Having boxes of the same size makes it easier to load and unload. As well, boxes that are to remain packed after the move can be piled easily. This idea is also useful for general storage. On The Move: The Best Approach With Boxes |

To cross cut a board, you can support it on a couple kitchen chairs. 2 sawhorses and an old door or piece of ply can act as a workbench. A few bricks can even be used to raise a piece of wood so that it can be safely cut on the floor. The saws are very useful. The First 5 Power Tools to Add to Your Tool Box |

Add up the amount of energy required to build a new house including the manufacturing or processing of its raw materials and it's safe to say that even a modest home isn't particularly an eco-friendly choice regardless of the claims by its architect, builders, and owners. Claiming a new house of this size is eco-friendly is simply ridiculous. Pierce Brosnan's Posh Eco-Pad | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |
