Amen Akay!
I think the thought of just how angry my Christmas lights are making some grinches may be almost as fun as the lights themselves :D

I do like to keep my decorating tasteful, but I hold nothing against those who go all out. And if you hate it, you have the rest of the year to look at your dark colorless street.

Do you have a picture of the damage? In any case, I highly recommend Bona's wood floor polish. Both myself and my neighbor have used the glossy kind to completely restore our nearly 100 year old, scratched and completely dull floors that weren't refinished before we moved in. It brings the color back and makes them nice and shiny again, my landlord actually thought I had the wood floors professionally refinished when he came by one day. You just mop it on and let it dry. It can be re-done every 6 months or so to bring the shine back.
If your floors aren't originally glossy it comes in a non-gloss version, but I've only used the glossy kind. Definitely test it in an inconspicuous area first, like the back of a closet, just in case! Oh and you can buy it at Lowes, Home Depot or Bed Bath & Beyond.

I don't find her voice objectionable at all... I'm actually surprised to hear someone say that because I can't remember thinking anything at all of it.

Whatever she sounds like- she's adorable and I love that she actually seems sweet and unpretentious about design.

wow... if my SO were as neat as some of the ones being complained about in this thread I'd be ecstatic!

Mine isn't just the toothpaste all over the sink kinda guy, he's also the drop something and leave it there until it magically disappears kind of guy. It doesn't matter whether it's a dirty plate, glass, pair of socks or pants or even popsicle sticks, he used to just drop it all in a pile on the floor on his side of the couch. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why we were buying new silverware sets every month- they were all under the couch!

Thankfully he no longer stashes dirty piles under the couch, but he still collects half empty soda cans all over the house then opens another one. And now he puts the chocolate popsicle sticks and chocolate-y wrappers on the clean white tile counters, right above the trash can!! Gotta love him... ;)

I do have to say the "after" is cute, and that the "before" wasn't THAT bad, so please don't take offense to this but... why is that rug still there!? Just getting rid of it would have made the "before" instantly better. It just looks like those mats they put at the entrance of Targets and supermarkets, I don't get it :/ Sorry to say!

There's a big difference between living where someone has died vs. living where someone was murdered! The latter would inevitably give me the creeps.

I have no problem with the former though. My family's home is the same house my grandparents built in the 40's, both my dad and I were raised there. When my grandpa was dying last year, he wanted to do so in his own home and everyone agreed that's how it should be.
We had his hospital bed set up in the living room and that's where he died, at home with family.
Ever since then, my grandma began taking her daily naps on the sofa in that same exact spot. I find it incredibly sweet though, not creepy.

Though some people might be creeped out if they looked up info on the house, because his ashes are there we had to register them so it now says there's a deceased person in the residence :P

I swear my old apartment had the matching ottoman to your couch. Don't know how it ended up in LA but it did :) It didn't match anything in our place so big kudos on making it work for you. It lost a fight with my husky a few weeks later :(
Also liking your guitar, Mick Jagger picture and that cute cat!

Please forgive me for the following stupid question; What do you use for fuel in these lamps? Nobody uses kerosene anymore, do they...? and I won't burn down my apartment, correct?
I have a set just like #4 and a few other oil lamps from my grandma and great grandma, but have never actually used them for anything other than decoration (with the exception of one my grandpa converted into an electric lamp in the 60's.)
I'd love to use the rest though so please share! Thanks in advance... :)

I'm late to this post, but #6 would be my dream come true! I could live in that bathroom, everything about it is drool-worthy... well, minus the pink fluffy lamp :P

#2, 5 and 8 are all great too. Thank you so much for posting these!

sturgeongeneral, your comment made me laugh! I can't count how many times I've thought that about my boyfriend.

I've lived with and therefore shared a bathroom with him for almost 4 years now. He's amazing in every way except when it comes to picking up / putting away absolutely anything.
However, since our new place has the world's smallest bathroom, he learned the hard way that any shoes / clothing on the floor get really, really soaked anytime the shower is on. He complained at first, but you can't argue with reason; if they weren't on the bathroom floor they wouldn't have gotten wet in the first place :)
I don't like to be a meanie though so when needed I gather it up in a pile and deposit in the designated "messy zone."

Also, I've learned if you've got a messy bathroom mate only buy the kind of toothpaste that stands up! No more squishy tubes emptied all over the side of the sink.

We just used a textured / patterned window film in our new place and love it.
It was a top priority for me, since one of the living room windows (in our otherwise perfect new apartment) faces the parking garage of the building next door. I love the shutter windows and didn't want to keep them covered with curtains 24/7 but didn't want to look at an ugly garage either, so window film it was.

The majority of window films out there are either hideous or boring, so thanks to AT and whoever linked to the Solyx brand! It was about $15 per foot x 48" wide, our window needed 6 feet.

Here is a picture of it once installed... our place is a 1920's Spanish Moorish style bungalow so it actually goes pretty well, or at least I like it :)
