Do you train the cats or do they train you? One of life's eternal questions...I have found that squirt guns are great for training cats (as much as is possible), good scratching boards keep them from clawing the furniture, and some kind of partially covered compartment that looks forbidden, like a drawer or a suitcase or a box, will help them stay off furniture. Apartment Therapy had a great post about custom-built climbing walls and perches for cats, maybe they could repost that? Something up high will help keep the cat off the top of the fridge. First, never buy art based on your decor, and don't necessarily decorate around your art. Good art, true art, has its own singular integrity so that it is beautiful independent of its surroundings. That said, it's always satisfying when you find the perfect spot for a piece you love. Tips for Gradually Changing My Decor Palette? Good Questions |

I like the space, but I didn't vote for it because she had a decorater do it. I think the contest should be only for self-decorated apartments, otherwise it becomes a contest about who has money. Caroline's Elegant Simplicity Small Cool Contest |

Maxwell, I think it's pretty cool you had John McEnroe at Wimbledon in the early 80s on your computer, but FYI, in tennis you don't watch "the game," you watch "a match" or the specific match, as in "the men's final.". But thanks for giving the woefully under-appreciated sport some air time. Day 14: Media Fast The 20/20 Home Cure |

I think the apartments on craigslist tend to be overpriced. I've lived in a few different cities, and craigslist rentals tend to be at the very highest end of the going rate for any particular neighborhood. If you're going to use craigslist, I recommend you try to negotiate the rent down. How To Use Craigslist To Find The Perfect Apartment |

Ok, very pretty, but how long do the tissue paper circles stay on the base paper lantern? MS says they taped the circles to the base. Did the tape go on the round surface smoothly? What about those little wrinkles you get in tape, especially on a curved surface? I'm skeptical that anything coming out of Martha Stewart's machine is really all that easy to do well - but the results are very nice. Delightful DIY: Colorful Paper Lanterns Martha Stewart |

Looks great from the outside, but on the inside it's too much like an RV. Maybe if you just used it once in a while, and it were in Paris or someplace like that....but as a permanent space? Not for me! James' Ultra Compact Abode |

Maybe they were secretly jealous of the freedom you enjoy? I know I have always been puzzled by the suburban middle class assumption that everyone wants a faceless tract home in the 'burbs...I recently dated a divorced man with three college-aged kids, who had two bedrooms that were only used for their occasional visits. He told me when he was first divorced his son 'had to sleep on a pull out sofa in the living room' and he felt terrible. I never could figure out what was so terrible about that (maybe a reader can help me out)?

Well, maybe that's not the only thing it could be screaming for. Why not artwork? I gather you're on a budget (like me), so if you don't have enough appropriate artwork to hang ceiling to floor, what you could do is buy a roll of fabric and paint it - or get a couple of creative friends and make a party of it. Alternatively, you could get a roll of plain fabric and a little bit of really cool fabric and do cut-outs of the cool fabric on the good fabric. Budget Shelving Solutions for Really Tall Alcove?
