The best way to display framed artwork is dependent on so many variables. Most important is the work itself: some is best viewed from a distance, some needs to seen very close up to be appreciated. With all the different kinds of furnishings, room sizes, ceiling heights, etc., etc., there is no one rule that always applies. Except maybe that you like how it looks in your own home! Working with all the variables is part of what makes interior design interesting and fun.

I'm enjoying seeing the gradual progress of your apartment renovation. I love what you've done in the kitchen! That black wall is an inspiration, and your kitchen looks so easy to work in. So nice and big for a Manhattan apartment! I agree that the main difference between your place and the inspiration photos is the countertop material. I love the look of new wood countertops, but they always end up looking so crummy around the sink. Your marble counters are gorgeous. Great job!

I couldn't care less about Paula Deen's salad on a doily. I use Pinterest to organize images and links in a way that is useful to me, not to try to measure up to anyone's standard, or to attract followers. I guess if you're using it to try to get exposure for a product it could be helpful, but it's meaningless to me.

Great idea. I'm with meecee though. Having just the lower door hinge supporting the table seems risky.

Do DVDs for Cats Really Work?

Some cats don't notice videos. My cat is LOVES to watch birds on TV. I discovered this when watching a program about hummingbirds on PBS. She got so excited! I bought the video of that show and I show it to her a few times a year, when she seems terribly bored, usually in the winter. She does seem to lose interest if I show it to her too much. She also loves to watch my yoga videos. :-)

This is a gimmick. Netflix has so few decent, recent movies available for streaming, it's almost not worth the subscription fee.

I like to take the tree down soon after New Years Day, but I like seeing people's outdoor white lights up through these dark evenings. Here in New England many people leave them through the winter, and I find it cheering. I live with a single open room downstairs that includes kitchen/dining/living space, and I light candles every evening and put them around the room, in the windows, etc. It makes the room warm and cheerful and lifts my spirits. I also find that if I meditate for 10 minutes a day, exercise (just a walk at lunchtime is enough), eat well and do creative projects of some kind, I keep the blues at bay.

Trying too hard, I agree. The choices for materials are not very end-user friendly. Light bulbs on the back of the chair? So easy to break and get cut on! Shingles on the table? I hope they have a lot of tweezers handy for all the guests' splinters.

I've been using the (#1) Swivel Straight for eight years now, and I still love it. The pedal has become a little sticky over time, but still works fine. I usually buy 6' trees, and put them up myself, no problem. I cut a piece of foam rug padding to fit underneath, to protect the wood floor underneath. It's easy to water too, with a indoor plant watering can (with a long spout), and holds a lot of water. I cover the stand with a piece of crushed velour fabric, loosely wrapped around. It looks really nice. Highly recommended. No more swearing when putting up the tree!

Many years ago I accidentally left an aluminum saucepan on an electric burner until the water boiled away and the the pot bottom completely melted. When the giant blob of aluminum cooled it popped right off the burner. I was about 11 years old at the time, and I found it fascinating!

Bar Keepers Friend is a highly effective cleaning product, but please be aware that it was given a grade of "F" by the Environmental Working Group. Its active ingredient is oxalic acid. An F grade means: "Potentially significant hazards to health or the environment or poor ingredient disclosure." Since the package plainly states that oxalic acid is the active ingredient, it must be a potentially significant environmental or health hazard.

Give your parents your bed, or use Priceline to find a great deal on a local hotel. Depending on where you live you may be able to get an awesome deal on a room for them. Not ideal, but it's another option.

How To Use 5-Foot-Wide Room for Guests? Good Questions

I lived in an apartment on a busy road and had a similar experience. The noise drove me crazy. For privacy I hung plain white curtain panels (using pressure rods inside the frame) on the bottom halves of the windows, so the light could still come in from the tops. Obviously the curtains did nothing for the noise, but I discovered that if I could not see the cars whizzing by, the noise bothered me less. I know it sounds odd, but I guess I just focused on them less. After two years I moved because after trying earplugs, white noise machines, etc., I just couldn't adjust to the noise. I hope you can!

I painted my house in Benjamin Moore Atrium White throughout. I have natural wood, slate and red accents, and they look great with the Atrium White, which has the very, very slightest bit of a pink undertone. Definitely not cool. I agree with others that Navajo White is kind of tan and dreary.
I don't know how accurate the color will be here, but my home was in the Small Cool contest in 2011. For what it's worth, you can see pics here:

Great couch! Leather is a great choice for living with felines. The major plus - leather is so easy to wipe clean, and the cat hair doesn't stick! But I must tell you that with cats, there are just no guarantees. My cat's favorite chair is my only piece of leather furniture - an Ekornes stressless chair. After five years of her jumping into the chair, the seat is showing quite a few scratches. It's not so bad that I have to reupholster yet, but I'm just saying - although she wasn't scratching deliberately, her claws have left their marks. Totally worth it though! I love my cat more than my chair. :-)
