I haven't tried @anotherjen 's recipe so I won't comment on their's, but I've had many variations on the pumpking pie blah blah blah made with sour cream and every single one has been gross. These were recipes from reputable sources made by accomplished/skilled bakers/cooks. It just always tastes like watered down pumpkin pie with sour cream on top.

I do second the change in crust to ginersnap or something, and the nut crumble toppings. But, if you are going to make a different on check to make sure the plain one isn't someones favorite and the thing they look forward to all year. Because having a funky version when all you want is the standard is heartbreaking.

These used to be refereed to almost exclusively as bacon presses. There are a million models. Cast iron and as heavy as you can get is best (read up on keeping cast iron skillets, the theory is the same). But, I would never use them on a steak, your just gonna push all your juices out i.e. dry out the steak.

I somewhat disagree with the inkjet cost more to operate stuff. We have a bunch of the hp officejet pro 8600 line and they get thousands of pages per cartridge and the cartridges are reasonably priced especially when compared to replacing all 4 cartridges in a color laser.

I think it is greatly under reported just how much more energy (and thus greater carbon footprint) these light bulbs take to produce. I would love to see some numbers that compare the environmental/energy impact these 2 types of bulbs have from raw materials, through manufacturing/processing (creating and shipping all those circuit boards from china), use, and disposal. I would venture a guess that the CFLs are far worse for the environment than people think, and that the "environmental" aspect is basically a marketing ploy to get people to buy more expensive light bulbs.

Also, so few people mention in these posts how much more efficient traditional fluorescent lights are to compact florescent. And the disposable parts of traditional fluorescent tubes have a far smaller environmental impact than compact fluorescent bulbs. These tubes can also be purchased the the "Soft white" (more yellow, 3500k) color spectrum that people seem to prefer over the traditional "blinding office white".

I would venture a guess that the happy medium between Edison style bulbs and traditional fluorescent tubes would be a CFL with a replaceable tube section and a re-usable base (I know there is at least 1 company making these but they are not wide spread yet).

This, also doesn't mention the newer non-Edison style, non-CFL bulbs that have come out in recent years that are much more efficient and have greatly increased bulb life while not resorting to complicated electronics e.g. Halogen.

I like to do homemade marinades, just remember if it has garlic or onions it'll spoil within a couple of weeks. In fall I like to do wassail, just brew put in bottle and chill, then they can put it in the crockpot or on the stove and serve. Homemade flavored simple syrups are nice, or if you are going to be together and drink it the day of (and you can keep it chilled) some iced coffee is very nice.

I would second this with the caveat that this phone isn't going to be upgraded to windows phone 8. Still, I've used this phone and android, and iphone. This is pretty much the easiest to setup without any hand holding.

I would also say that if someone has had an ipod for years and used it heavily (music and podcasts and such) and is thus very familiar with the itunes software on the desktop, an iphone could be an alternative. But I wouldn't wish the desktop itunes software on my worst enemy.

I will concede that a crappy movie theater compared to even a basic home setup is going to be more pleasurable, but if both are at their peak then the theater will win every time.

We used to have a string of family owned theaters near us that actually cared about creating a great experience.

$5 (for students) got admission + Med. Drink + Med. Popcorn (refills cost $0.25 on drinks $1 on popcorn. They upgraded the equpment and kept it in decent repair. Everthing was cleaned regularly the staff was all in black and white (snappy dress only). On opening weekends they decorated the theater and they would come in and preface the movie before it started, something like "This is Pirates of the Carribean 4 it is about 95 minutes long and a parents may want to pull out the smallest of guests at about 50 mins for the love scene". Then when you leave there is an attentant at the door with mints and toothpicks. They also had first come first serve premium seating (leather couches with end tables.

So it can be done. If anything I'd love to see a call to action that could in some way encourage the well maintained mom and pop theaters.

Is Your HDTV Better Than the Theater?

The major difference between a traditional film projection setup and a modern hdtv is resolution.

The standard home display is 1080p max (some are larger and 4k and 8k exist but aren't standard), the advantage film has always had is that it can capture millions more "pixels" than any digital display could produce.

I do agree that 3d in the theater is garbage, but I think 3d in the home is pretty crappy also. It's a gimmick I don't need.

Laptops are not made to ever been on soft and/or upholstered surfaces. On most laptops there are little rubber feet that lift it a few milometers off the surface it is resting on, this is meant to allow ventilation underneath the device. Never lay a plugged in laptop on a heavily cushioned surface (think bed with comforter) this puts unnecessary stress on the power connector and leads to it breaking down.

It should be noted that this is not a powered hdmi extender, and many of the reviewers on monoprice.com found that because of that their source device could not provide enough power to push this extender. A hdmi repeater could be used with this and/or another extender that is powered to achieve the proper length needed.

I've used similar extenders that were powered to great effect in auditoriums and conference rooms.

Always remember to check building codes when running cabling as they are slightly different in every area.

Lard is a special term to refer to rendered pig fat. Tallow is a generic term for rendered fat (beef, bison, pig, etc.).

Being as this fat is so much more close to human fat the body has a much easier time processing it in the body than nasty chemical concoctions like "vegetable shortening".

On the subject of raised beds if you follow the guide given but instead buy Cedar fence plank replacements you can save a bundle. They are about 6' wide and about 5"10' after you cut off the dog ear, and the best part is they are about $2 a pop. They are naturally rot resistant and won't taint your vegetables with chemicals like pressure treated.

So I built two 3"x6" beds for about $45 (1x 4x4 post ~$15 12x Cedar fence planks ~24). Note: (I used pressure treated wood but lined my bed with plastic so no worries of chemicals leeching into the soil)
