We have a large & beautiful 1920s English oak armoire in the living room that I had shelves put into; now it's a pantry & nobody knows what's in it when the door is closed.

Commercial salad dressing can add hundreds of calories to your salad, because we tend to just splash it on, & prepared takeout salads are always drenched in dressing. OTOH, a homemade oil & vinegar dressing used judiciously should only add about 120 calories, if you use 1 tBsp of dressing per serving. Mixed greens vs spinach won't make any difference, they're both just leaves.

First, paint out the red, maybe with something sandish/greenish/off whitish, to go with the green granite counter. Once that's done, you'll be better able to decide what to do with the cabinets; they may not even need painting once the walls are painted, just a change of hardware. I agree with HeyJoanne: a round table w/2 chairs could fit nicely in that window space.

I cut the beast into quarters in a bowl of cold water, then fold the quarters back & gently work the seeds out with my thumbs.
@ rosebud: a fresh pom should feel firm & smooth& supple, without wrinkles, and the skin should be a bright fresh red. If it's an old fruit the skin will be hard & dry, the red will be faded & turning distinctly brown.

That picture makes me feel claustrophobic, there's way too much stuff crammed into that space. Also, it looks extremely staged.

Your roommate should replace the ruined sheet at his expense. Then, teach him to *always* line baking sheets with parchment paper, even if the recipe calls for ungreased sheets. Having said that, I've got some old pans that I still use under baking dishes to catch overflow. I soak them for a bit, then scrub with Cameo Cleaner, which seems to remove pretty much all of the mess.

Paint the wall behind the bed & move the bed to the centre of the wall. Get rid of the pillows, they look old & shabby. Pull the quilt up so that it becomes a bedspread. Get your pictures off the floor & hang them over the bed. Take down the posters taped beside the window. Hang the clothes hook thingy inside the closet (or get rid of it entirely) & hang the mirror on the closet door. Hang your clothes inside the closet, not on the walls. Hang Roman shades in a solid colour. Get a rug.

I've found that as I've gotten older the 'desire to acquire' has tapered off severely. I still love to look at all kinds of beautiful things, but I don't feel the need to own them. My dh has asked me what I want for Xmas & I can't think of one.single.thing. I'm so very very lucky.

I would pull out the green from the quilt & then lighten it to a pale shade. And put an area rug over that (shudder) pink carpet.

It took us 15 yrs to find the perfect replacement for our sofa. During yet another trip to Crate & Barrel we saw the Simone daybed & fell in love immediately. The two of us can lie on it at the same time, either head to toe (for reading), or side by side (for watching movies). When we have a sleepover guest, it converts to a twin-size bed by removing the bolsters. Worth every minute of the wait!

Okay, I get that this is an article about emergency phones. But why is the focus on seniors, whom the writer seems to think are 'dumb'? I'm a grandparent & I'm just as tech-smart as my grandchild. This is a stereotype that's really offensive!

Lowter, my pantry's that neat! Also, it's 3 shelves in a 1920s armoire in our living room, since we have a typical apartment galley kitchen.

@starwitness: even better/easier is emptying a can of condensed milk into a glass baking dish & baking it, as David Lebovitz does: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2005/11/dulce-de-lechec/
I prefer to do it this way as I'm always paranoid about the boiling can exploding if I forget to top up the water.

Hemp curtains are an excellent option, as it's a natural material & the weave is so tight you don't need a liner. After your shower, all you do is wring out the excess water & let it drip dry inside the tub. It's pricey, around $90, but they last a long time.

Toasted leftover pane de casa, smooth peanut butter, black & blue jam (blackberry-blueberry). Fresh challah (slices or buns) with smooth peanut butter & thinly sliced Granny Smith apple. Chia flax bread with chunky peanut butter & lavender honey (my granddaughter's favourite). Any stale bread, toasted, with smooth peanut butter & mashed ripe banana. All with icy cold milk, of course!
