I think this is a great idea for DYI but I needed a whole bed. I found a headboard with wood framing and fabric panels. The PANELS come out and you put whatever fabric you want over them and put them back in like a picture frame. VERY COOL. They make the HB in several colors (I got Dark Chocolate) and I got the whole platform with a matching drawer kit underneth. It was called the Chameleon by Night & Day. I found THE most comfortable couch/sleeper. It seemed to have no compromises, no bar in the back, no crack down middle, no small sizing. - by far the plushest mattress between looking at everything from a cheap IKEA (under $500)to a mid-range futon/click-clack (decent considerations starting @ $500) to the top of the line AU sleeper (just over $2000). - It's only down side was the the styling was in the process of being updated to a cleaner more contemporary look, (sample had a big "bubba" look)and they were adding a loveseat for small rooms. They called it a Sofa Bedder and the new design is due out this spring and hitting under $900- by far the most comfy for the $$ I found. - The same guys also had a "Murphy Chest" which was like a Murphy Bed but more portable for Apartments.
