I've loved my Bugaboo except for one major thing: the break. It's horrible. The break on the cheap umbrella stroller I got for emergencies is better than the one on my Cameleon. I hope the donkey can stop and is just as sure footed as a donkey. But I still love the design and the smooth wheels. LOVE the wheels...as did my kid!

Are you by any chance doing bunk beds and could it go right where the shelves are so that the top bunk has great places for books and special treasures. The height of them makes me think that's what they were built for.

We used the methods from "The Happiest Baby on the Block"....one of them being to rock the baby to sleep or to settle down. That's what I most used our glider for. Maggie Z is right. After you get the hang of it you'll be nursing anywhere comfortably. We didn't get our glider until ours was 7mos (backorder issues) and I was SO relieved when we got it!

AnSela...so sorry you feel this way. There are a couple books out there you should read about brain development in utero and the first years of childhood. The brain develops even further when learning music, particularly the piano, at a young age....by 4. The brain extends it's ability to learn spacial relationships. A second language does exactly the same thing.

One book you should read is "What's Going on In There". There are also extensive experts in the field who all have come to the same conclusion in their research. I've gotten a good amount of info from NPR and the NYC Times. Many articles have been written on the subject.

All I know from my experience as a former professional athlete who traveled the world over, a successful art director in advertising and film and the creator of an organic childrens line is that knowing a second language has given me many more options and opportunities.

Beside the financial rewards of say being the one to land a large client who has it's own clients world wide and needed a company who was bi-lingual and bi-cultural, I've met many amazing people because I knew another language. And I wish I knew a third so I could continue to meet more.

But if you think America doesn't deserve people like me then you are entitled to your opinion. And, yeah, I consider Spanish to be more important than English which is why I'm so literate in English and have been asked to be a contributing writer to a number of blogs..... blogs in English.

Oh, such a timely post. I speak Spanish, first generation Colombian raised in the US since I was a toddler. My parents only allowed us to speak Spanish in the house bc they didn't want us to pick up on their accent and bad grammer in English and because they wanted us to know Spanish. I never realized how hard they worked for us to keep our native tongue until I had my daughter.

My husband is American and only speaks English. I'm the one who will have to really work on getting my daughter to speak Spanish. My aunt just visited us from Spain and I realized how little Spanish my 2.5 yr old can speak. She understands but doesn't speak it.

I fully agree with Jojoebi that if the need isn't there they wont speak it. It's why I believe my daughter still says "agua" but stopped saying "tenedor". All our American friends know agua is water so they'll pass her water when she asks for it but no one knows tenedor is fork so she says what will get the response she needs.

It's been inspiring to read your posts and to know I'm not the only one in this boat. I will persevere because I will feel like I failed my daughter if I don't pass on a language I know. And I've read of all the benefits a second language will do for developing the brain, let alone a future career.

My 2.5yr-old has been playing with my iphone for at least a year if not more. I have it loaded with learning games which have evolved right along with her....or one step ahead of her I'd like to think bc I use them to promote learning and dexterity. I, of course, also use them to help me entertain her when I'm in a tight spot, ie in line at a store talking to a doctor, on a long car ride, etc.

I've gotten the evil eye from people in public bc I allow my toddler to play with my phone. Generally its people without children who give me the judgement so I brush it off. Also they dont' know better about where our future is headed.

Surgeons and many other high paying professions are using technology in new ways. I've read that surgeries will eventually be performed without a hand touching the human body. It'll all be done via a touch screen to reduce infection. The last thing I want to do is to hold my child back from developing skills she may need one day. I need to think where HER future is going not where my past has been. But just like everything else in life, moderation is the key. Screen time must not exceed reading, art or outdoor playing time.

We initially bought a sprayer for our cloth diapers but we switched to the 7th Generation brand instead. I thought the sprayer was a waste of money until we started potty training. It's been the easiest and cleanest way to clean up accidents and rinse out the little toilet seat. Washing out dirty pants in the toilet sure beats rinsing them in the sink, where we brush their teeth or the bathtub, where we bathe.

Yams or sweet potatoes baked for 30-40 min are always popular with our 2 year old.

Now that we're coming into tomato season I roast pans of tomatoes at 200 degrees for 6 hours or so. You can slice them or quarter them, add olive oil, salt to taste, add basil if you'd like, but if your kid isn't into eating greens then skip the basil and cook. Our daughter will eat plenty of these as the tomatoes get almost a caramelized natural sweetness to them.
