My Spanish/Cordovese mother would faint if she read the comment about real Spanish gazpacho being smooth. As she puts it, how could it be intended to be smooth when it's a medieval recipe and no one had a blender then? It's a blend of what you've got in your summer garden in proportions you like. 970 feet is considered small? For a one bedroom? That makes it bigger than any home anyone in my family has ever lived in. Great layout though. Lauren & Kyle's Double Duty Elements Small Cool Contest |

Sorry Joel Salatin, but if my pet gets sick I'm gonna live on ramen for a few months so I can take them to the ultra elite vet service. Joel Salatin Takes on 'Foodie Elitism': Why You Shouldn't Feel Guilty About Caring Flavor Magazine |

I bought it a few weeks ago thinking they misspelled red quinoa! Then I did some research on it and used it exactly as I would have the red quinoa. It is harder to work with than quinoa, and my partner and I were both let down by the taste and the texture. I could see how it would be a good breakfast cereal. Kañiwa: Is This the New Quinoa? |

Throwing things out is so difficult. Even expired things, open but nearly full things etc. It's not getting rid of stuff, but the waste that bothers me. Was able to talk myself into tossing an unopened pie crust that expired in 2008 and only cost $1.98, but that took effort! Was not able to toss the opened and expired (but still good!) ginger jam- it was $12! It goes so well with cheese! I like Loora's idea. Will try. If jam not used by end of week, it's GONE. Interesting, especially considering that most heirloom varieties are inedible & for fermenting. I read the article this links to and am confused--I thought apple varieties couldn't be controlled as seeds, but rather needed to be grafted. Does that mean large companies control the grafting of apples? Slow Food Declares 2010 the Year of the Heirloom Apple | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |
