I retrofited my apartment for built in 7.1 speakers and a media closet.
It is so nice not to have all the wires and speakers cluttering up the apartment.

It was lots of work to do all by myself but I love it!

I had an oral surgery a few years ago and could barely talk and could not chew at all. All the soups were driving me crazy so I went to the local Indian take away and asked for Chicken Tikka Masala WITHOUT the chicken - they looked at me funny but they gave it to me. Most of the places I have been that offer this dish have it floating in sauce so it should be no problem to get it without the meat. The sauce is delicious rich and creamy - and its a bit thicker than soup. It was a nice change from the 3 meals of soup every day.
Hope he recovers soon!

The smoke damage was NOT from smokers - it was from the trains!
I remember when I was a little boy you could smell diesel smoke and actually see the rays of sun light shining through the smokey air. To this day that smell brings back memories of traveling!
Now almost all the trains using Grand Central Termainal are electric - while better for the enviornment it is somehow not the same.

Guests like fish smell after 3 days.
Living in NYC so may friends want to visit and they don't understand that a small open-plan apartment is not ideal for guests. After having a few come for 4 days and then extend their stay extend for 10 days I now don't want to make it too comfortable!

If you travel internationally don't forget to put your plug adapter in your carry on, your American iPhone charger won't do you any good in the UK (or anywhere else) without it.

Another tip - go to you local hardware store to buy your adapter, Some places charge up to $20 for it, my hardware store charges $3.

DO NOT wait to get an adapter overseas. I have had a hard time finding them, and when I did they cost a fortune!

I have a slow-close toilet seat reat toilet seat from Home Depot that cost about $25. It looks and functions the same as any other toilet seat.

My complicated lighting controls allways gets a "how do I turn on the hall lights?" - I do not want operation questions about the toilet!

PS. The indentation and mechanism on the back of the seat look like they may be less sanitary than a flat smooth surface.

In a small bathroom it makes it the room look bigger because you dont have the rod going across.
Did it in my bathroom and it looks great!
