I've gotta say, I've seen a lot of AT articles we'll just politely call "fluff". But this - this is great! Useful, bookmarking.

How To: Get Back Your Security Deposit

Luckily, I've lived in my complex for fifteen years and my manager takes special care of us -- so paying for each load ($1 dryer, $1.25 washer) isn't necessary... sometimes at least!

But, unfortunately, cheap detergent isn't an option for me - sensitive skin (my husband and I both!).

I usually do cut my soap in half (it still never seems to last long... sigh). Dryer sheets are necessary in my home (three dogs), but those can also be cut in half AND reused.

Air drying is also a must -- right on the shower curtain bar!

I love this article - very interesting. I had heard of the cage shower, but a foot bath? A sitz bath?!!! And a dental sink?! I can only imagine going back in time to show those people how far minuscule germs from the toilet end up anyway...

This is perfect -- exactly what my fiance and I were talking about this morning. Okay, what I was talking about. But still, perfect!! I never thought about trying peas, but I just may now.

Love love loooove the first one, but if I was living in that space, I'd have to get rid of a few of the lovely items (or move them to other sections of the house at least) to avoid getting a headache (just a littttle too much going on there).

Tooootally loving the gardening articles by Willi Galloway on here, hopefully they'll inspire many aspiring patio gardeners like me! I think this year will be the first where I won't kill nearly everything I plant right away.... :)

Aww you homeowners are making me jealoussss.

The only hammock I can have here is a banana hammock.

I'm sure I'm not the only apartment renter (you know, as in "apartmenttherapy") wishing you guys had a totally separate "ownedhometherapy.com" to keep us from longing after wonderful contraptions like the simple hammock.

Sam I Am - it does. You'll need to use decent-quality bags and use duct tape to seal the hole efficiently.

Stupid - "things they don't need"? That's subjective. Technically every dollar spent on a car over $5000 is "unneeded", etcetera.
Yes, I know technically don't NEED a sewing machine, I technically don't NEED a patio table, I don't NEED a guest bedroom, I technically don't NEED jewelry or a nice wardrobe. But who cares if I do? I don't consider that money wasted.

Of course people waste money on stupid things, but really that amount of money is not surprising when you think of the fact that there are 307 million people living here and a lot of that supposed 1.2 trillion is spent by our ~400 billionaires.

I don't like Burburry at all, or fringe in the home. Fringe in fashion, however.... love it (as long as it's done well, not trashy!).

Also, I love Fringe... the show.

I spot a typo - unfinished sentence about French presses.

Good list!
There are a few issues for some of these though. I know some people need a hair dryer to avoid insane results (I don't, luckily!), and there is no way I'm giving up my trash bags. Well, I can't. City ordinances or something like that state that when I put my trash in the dumpster, it must be in a tied bag.... and I can't go trashless.
I didn't realize until this post that I pretty much already don't use plastic wrap!

Is it possible to use other things in the room to distract from the ugly ceiling?

I think some people here are being a bit harsh - I really encourage you to speak to your apartment manager. A simple conversation might give you something great - like permission to scrape. Since no one likes popcorn ceilings and if it really is that bad, it would be reasonable for your landlord to let you do it (and make you fix it if you screw it up, get it in writing). Just ask!
