I've reupholstered/refinished every stick of furniture in my house, and here's what I've learned about your questions:

1. Squeaking, wobbling, and dead spots where the springs don't spring (or you can feel springs through the padding) are all signs that a piece of furniture needs structural attention. Such things are frequently repairable!

2. I love NewToto.com for fabrics--screaming deals on remnants of designer stuff.

It's amazing, even the runniest bread dough builds gluten this way. Hope it helps you!

I've done it twice--each was a lounge chair--and both times worked out very well. The Greyhound station where I live (Minneapolis) has a very friendly staff and easily accessible parking and loading. It was an inexpensive way to have these chairs shipped and I would definitely do it again, especially with very well-reviewed ebay sellers.
