I picked up a very similar desk (with legs) from the Treasure Mart in Ann Arbor. Looks like all I need to do to save $1420 is carefully saw off the legs, remove the drawers to run long screws through the back and into studs then BAM! DIY Class on the CHEAP!

I still haven't bought a microwave, dishwasher, or TV. But I don't view all those things as necessary. The lacking microwave (for 2 years) has taught me how to cook good, fresh, and healthy food on the fly. No TV (for 8 years now) keeps me social and actively pursuing my goals without a distraction. The only downside is I have no idea what is going on in popular culture or sports (but ignorance is bliss!). But the missing dishwasher is annoying, I'm currently working with the landlord to fix that one.

All these lacking creature comforts have taught me to appreciate simpleness though. I spent 10 months unemployed last year and it was good to know that I can survive and thrive with a very minimalist lifestyle.
