Depends on what you want the rocker for - I think Toys R Us has some gliders over here. But I have to agree with Zucca31 - I wanted an armchair for nursing and discovered that what I really wanted was the Poang that was at all my friends' houses. It was so dang comfortable for nursing I was shocked. And it's affordable :-) You can also try your local NCT sales or message boards, thrift (charity) stores or ebay.co.uk.

Ikea has some nice clocks suited to the purpose. We've done it too and printed out some nice labels, laminated them for structure and tacked them underneath. It would also look nice to put them on a picture rail (again, IKEA) and put the labels in small frames alongside the clocks.

We're a German/English bilingual household and although my husband does a great job of speaking German to our daughter, she often answers everything in English even though she understands German fully. It's funny the German words she uses though - typically bedtime related words because daddy puts her to bed. When we visit with German family, her German output increases. So I agree, you've got to have someone speaking it to them - all the time.

For resources though, try requesting it from friends/relatives in that country as gifts and we've found fun stuff on YouTube in other languages. I also have a standing request in with my local kids' thrift store for German books which aren't must use to them anyway in an English speaking country! Etsy does some multi-language flash cards/art. And try apps for your smart phone in multiple languages.

We've done pretty well with only nice, wooden, creative play toys but we did cave and buy a super-plastic, beeping, flashing cash register for our daughter's shop and she thought it was the bee's knees! We loved that we only spent 5 bucks and in many ways it's much more realistic than the super expensive wooden ones we covet :-)

We loved the black and white baby bjorn bouncer and happily it was borrowed from a friend. It is pricey, but it's super to have one that folds flat and I loved how simple it was - the bears activity bar came off when we didn't need/want it and it was a great piece of kit for a good long while. Maybe you could share it with a friend and split the cost! The cover was washable and the black fabric made an AWESOME background for pictures!

we also loved the tummy tub and it's great for travelling (we put it in a duffle and took it on many, many flights) and small spaces. kiddo loved it. and then she got older... and the screaming began! finally figured out it was the dreaded rinse and so now we bathe her less often and really take our time. she gets a long play time either side of the rinse. we also use a wash cloth to slowly rinse/wipe the soap off which cuts down on the screaming. we're all happier!

what sort of home project would pay for itself when you have to pay $9,350 for a laser to cut some felt? hmmmm. love the resource though; saw some felt chair pads in Germany and they were yummy.

Ditto to something to prop your feet up on, can be an ottoman or a thick book, it just helps somehow to expand your lap and get things in the right place. Definitely need a table for whatever distractions you need, and space for a water glass for sure. Ditto too on different stations for different times of day - the couch is actually great at first since you may find an armchair a bit constraining at first as you try different postitions to make it work.

Key thing for me though was a view of a clock. Projected on ceiling for at night and in view of the sofa during the day. And hang in there, it's hard work but worth it!

Absolutely doable. And I would agree that the sooner the better but I have seen kids of all ages on the frequent overseas flights we take. In our experience, folks are super accommodating when you have a baby and the flight crews couldn't have been nicer.

One recommendation - a pop-up travel tent bed. Your kid always has the same view, no matter where they are and it's super compact. We have one like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/NScessity-Large-Travel-Centre-Blue/dp/B000HK8DDE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=baby&qid=1250879394&sr=8-3

Have a great trip!

we have a couple of brands that use these pouches in the UK for all sorts of food - from fruit to main courses. They are fantastic for traveling since they don't break and limit the mess, even if you do squeeze them onto a spoon. I also like that you don't contaminate what's left so you get more chances to use up an uneaten pouch.

We have a trundle under our Ikea day bed. They used to make a few styles with trundles - as always, reasonably priced - and not sure what they have now, but worth a look.

We have a gift cupboard that is well used. It's got some re-gifts in it too, but we keep a running list so we can make sure we don't give the gift back to the same person or to someone they will see a lot! Every now and then we go through the collection and give what we can't unload to charity. Otherwise we just try and buy things we love too so it's usually minimal what won't go away to a good home!

I loved the idea of the ergo but for airport travel - especially international with all the changing and checks - I loved have a Lifft sling - basically a tube of fabric that made for super quick ins and outs and didn't cause problems with metal detectors. When you aren't using it, you can shove it quickly in a bag. I also have a bugaboo bee which is super great for travel and couldn't have managed without both a sling for hands-free stair/security/airplane navigation and stroller for having a chance of some sleep and rest for my back.

Amazon sells a variety of car seat carriers perfect for traveling through airports.

Ditto buying food/snacks/diapers on arrival. However, if you can't live without, at least they're all consumables and you don't have to lug them home.
