this shouldn't be so surprising. it very explicitly states on the pyrex website:
"Pyrex glass bakeware has been made – first by Corning Incorporated and now by World Kitchen – using the same soda lime composition and heat-strengthening process for more than 60 years. "

Soda lime glass is more resistant to breaking if you drop it, but is more sensitive to the extreme temperature changes (not just heat/reheat), and is clearly labeled on every piece of new pyrex. if you don't put cold liquid into a hot pan, or a frozen pan into a hot oven, or set a hot pan on a cold marble countertop/wet spot, in general it isn't a problem.

Borax works better than baking soda or vinegar by themselves. It's a little stronger, and you don't have to scrub very hard. I just use a scrubby sponge and it works beautifully.

On a related note, anyone have suggestions for baskets I can hang from my pantry shelves? My pantry shelves are the white covered metal shelving racks with a lip on the front that hangs down from the shelf, so I am not sure the typical undershelf baskets will work.

if you're having a party, why not simmer (or use a crock pot) apple cider, and add in cinnamon sticks and cloves? or orange slices? then you get both the wonderful smell AND a lovely beverage to enjoy?

David Lebovitz's the Perfect Scoop has an amazing chocolate sorbet- no dairy, intense dark chocolate, and velvety smooth. Plus, it's really easy to make. I'd highly recommend it.

I third the vote for ice cream for Ohio, but I do love chocolate peanut butter a la buckeyes. BUT, and this is a big one, they must be homemade or really good quality. Anthony Thomas buckeyes do not count!

The best is making them with natural PB and dark chocolate, and freezing them, so you can sneak out a few every now and then. They never last long at parties, so little worry that they'll melt.

my family (also from Ohio) always marinated it in a mixture of essentially bottled italian dressing with Worcestershire sauce for a little kick, topped off with mushrooms that had been pan cooked in lots of butter. As an adult now, I've been using olive oil, garlic & herbs, vinegar or lemon juice, Worcestershire & soy sauces. I still love the mushrooms!
