As a former art teacher I would recommend that you forget the plastic hunks of junk and go for blunt nosed scissors. After all, you won't be letting her cut things unsupervised at that age and it is discouraging to use a tool that doesn't do what its intended to do.

I would also recommend (even though I wasn't asked, I will just throw this out there) that you do not have her start practicing "cutting on lines" until she is more confident in her use of scissors in general. Just have her practice the actual cutting motion by cutting snips and fringe, etc.

Happy Cutting!

If you don't want to do window film...because that is such a gorgeous view...I have an idea but let me see if I can explain it.

Basically you would cut two pieces of heavy or lined fabric (make sure both sides are pretty because you would be folding it back sometimes.) to match the shape of each of the arches. One side is higher than the other so they would be different sizes. I would use either decorative tacks or hooks to hang them from the upper sloped frames. In the inner lower corners you would put a grommet hole in the fabric and then when you wanted to open the curtains, you would lift the inner corners and hook them on the very outer corners. I do not know if this is making any sense to you. lol But I think it would be an easy and inexpensive fix to your problem. If you would like me to try to explain it further or have any questions...just email me at janetrhoads@gmail.com and I would be happy to try to help you more, maybe even sketch out a pic or something to make it clearer.

I have been longing for the mod-dot bedding set! I think the whole line is fantastic but I especially like the little square pillow...the boxy style and rounded corners.

Yellow is absolutely one of the hardest colors to get just right. It has the bad habit of looking buttery and light in the can and on the swatch but then when you get it up...it burns your retinas.

I would go with a creamy white or a soft grey if you have dark wood trim in the room or white trim. If you have white trim you could consider a deeper chocolate brown as well. I am not a big fan of the light beiges and tans...but they would work okay but might end up a little dull. White or grey is going to give you lightness, creamy white would be a little warmer and the right chocolate brown would add a lot of warmth and depth.

I am a big fan of the valspar line of paints at Lowe's...they are low VOC. They have a beautiful grey that I just used in my living room called Silver Dollar. Yellow and grey are a popular color combo right now too.

Be careful if you do go chocolatey brown that it doesn't have too much red in it.

Good luck! Your fabrics are absolutely beautiful!!
