Nice. I really like the aesthetic, and I can definitely appreciate a good knick-knack.

By the way, did I play softball against you this year?

I'm a dad and was a stay-at-home dad to our two foster boys for quite a while. I totally feel you on this post. What part of the country do you live in? I'm in Chicago, and I think being in a metropolitan area lends itself to quite a few stay-at-home dads, actually. I never actually joined a playgroup or anything of the sort, but I know there were some out there. I did take our kids to a local Children's Museum nearly every day over the winter months as a chance to get out of the house a bit, and I encountered quite a few dads. I also tried to schedule some playdates with other stay-at-home dads (and moms, too, of course). Definitely helps not to be the only male at the party.

Wow, so many opinions! Ha.

It's actually not loud at all. Frankly, we were quite worried about that, too, but the fact that it's firmly applied to the concrete walls keeps it from echoing or pinging.

Also, we were sure to coat it with a clear Rust O'leum coat. It's our basement bathroom, so we don't use it that often - I'm not sure we would have done it otherwise.

Finally, though I can appreciate what many are saying about the tile not being that bad before, it's one of those things where the picture doesn't quite convey it. The tile had no glossy coating on it, so it was very dull, worn, and dirty. Any dirt or mildew that had been on the tile wouldn't come off! The grout was missing in many places, and what was there was pale blue (ugly!). Also, the tile had been badly applied - you could literally pull it off with your fingers. Anyway, it needed to go.

Yeah, we know it's not to everyone's likings, and that's cool. We consider it our fun basement (rarely used) bathroom!

Surprisingly enough, JCPenney actually has some very nice furniture for a very affordable price. Depending on their style and space needs, this dresser or this one could work well. Both are solid wood construction with hardwood veneers. Dovetail drawers and all. Granted the mirrors are not particularly attractive, but the dressers themselves are really nice.

This looks great! And those countertops actually look really desirable in the after kitchen, whereas before they kind of looked out of place. Nice work.

We had a wooden toilet seat that we thought had to go! But, this...this is nice. So clean and simple.

Wow! Thanks for all the great comments, everyone.

The midcentury cabinets that were there had, at one time, been pretty great, I'm sure, but they were falling apart and incredibly inefficient - they had been built around a radiator housed under the sink. So, they had to go. Also, our house is from 1931, so they're not terribly architecturally accurate anyway.

Thanks again for all the kind words!

We recently renovated our bungalow kitchen to more of a farmhouse feel. I definitely agree that the original cast iron farm style sink and the vintage (inspired) hardware goes a long way to accomplish that look. I would also suggest that older light fixtures (like a schoolhouse fixture) can really make or break the look.
