Oh how I love waffles! With their little (or big) squares all full with lovely butter and maple syrup. In my waffle love, I stumbled across this blog... there are some awesome recipes for those obsessed with waffling... http://www.waffleizer.com/

I'm in the "drier" and "chunkier" scrambled eggs camp.
Though I do add a dollop of milk and some cheese! :)

My usual workday "breakfast" is sugar free instant oatmeal. Today I had that and a banana. I've been seriously craving some plain old egg-on-toast (scrambled or fried) and may have that for dinner!

Weekends we usually bake... love muffins, pancakes, waffles and an occasional blueberry bagel with light cream cheese. Yum!

The Breville Smart Oven was recommended in a "toaster oven" post - but it is sooooo much more than just a toaster oven. It's not cheap but sounds worth the cost. They also have a smaller size for a bit less money. I read all 19 pages of reviews on Amazon... I'm convinced to buy one when my current countertop oven bites it.

I wonder how much heavier that glass bowl is than the stainless... I like how it looks so much, I may have to practice more manual bread kneading to be able to lift/maneuver this one!

My hubby is a speed eater. I enjoy food too much to let the flavors go to waste. The more chewing time for me, the better!

I grew up on gas and have a gas cook top now. I much prefer it as it's so much easier to regulate the heat.

That being said, I also loved my smooth top electric cook top in my last house... but I think that one was an anomaly and definitely one of the better of the electric variety!

OK... found on another blog that cornflour IS indeed cornstarch and that lemon essence is lemon juice.

Weekend baking card is now filled. :)

That Japanese cheesecake looks to die for!

Questions:

1. I'm not sure what "corn flour" is (assuming it's not corn meal or corn starch, correct?) - can I get this at any standard grocery?

2. Also, "lemon essence" - is this zest or juice? Or maybe something altogether different?

If I can pull the ingredients together, I'll be making this on Saturday!

Toaster oven!

I was raised with a toaster only and was introduced to the toaster oven by a roommate in college - as so many who posted here appear to have been as well!

Right now, I own both but the toaster lives in its box in the cabinet under the counter. Toaster oven is used regularly for (yes) toasting, reheating (especially pizzas!) and mini-baking projects. I love my toaster oven sized pizza stone, too.

I'm still using my college roommate's hand-me-down toaster oven so am looking forward to checking out the models listed here when it's time for a replacement. :)

I have an electric oven but a gas cook top. I thought it was weird when we first bought the house but have come to love it!

Now if I could just get that poorly designed thermostat to stop overheating when I run the self clean. We've replaced two already so now it's oven cleaning by hand only. :(

We have a dishwashing MACHINE but we most often use a dishwashing PERSON instead (me or hubby). I can't explain it; I just feel the dishes are cleaner and less water/energy is used when we wash by hand. Our Bosch is supposed to be a good one but why does it have to run for hours?

• No-knead bread (x4 variations)
• Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles - DIVINE!
• Chicken tetrazzini - my own made up recipe based on various white sauces I've made before
• Linguini from scratch using the pasta maker I've had up in a cabinet for many years!

This weekend I plan to try the homemade tortillas. I can't wait to see what new topics and recipes show up here to inspire!

Definitely practice! And experiment! Keep things simple but don't be afraid to take risks.

I remember my first meringue experience when I was 10. My dad woke up to me sobbing in the kitchen because I couldn't separate the eggs. So he helped and we had both cherry meringue pie and a bunch of scrambled eggs that day!

Know that you're never on your own. You can get tips and feedback from family, communities (like this one!), books, internet, and the list goes on and on...

I also have problems slashing my breads (which I have been making tons of lately - thank you to the reintroduction to no-knead slow-rise).

I recently recalled a tip to cut the bread with kitchen shears if you have trouble knife slashing or if the dough is in a tight space. Will try that on the next round!

I've read about this as a substitute for mashed potatoes (or even combined cauliflower/potatoes) but I just can't wrap my mind around how it would taste... different, yes? Could I sneak this by my hubby instead of 100% potatoes?

I am one of those people who are totally conflicted by the whole WM dilemma. I shop there for convenience as there are no good options on my side of the city.

In my area, we have no Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. A little farther away we do have a local, upscale, "elite" grocer (Greenlife) that drains my soul - in a different way than WM does - and, even farther, a new EarthFare that just opened up. I'm excited at this new prospect and have already begun pricing comparisons.

Now I just need to find somewhere to get my fabric for sewing projects since the WMs in my area did away with their staffed fabric department in favor of a "celebration center." Ugh.
