ugh, this should be titled "rich student spaces". Lame. With the exception of the last picture none of these look like there was much of a budget... Grade-A Student Spaces House Tour Roundup |

I think the biggest solution would be to first unclutter as much as possible. Duane is right that it seems like you have too much furniture. Many of the shelves look only half full so try to fill up one or two and get rid of the rest. Condense as much as possible and consider hanging some wall shelves to free up floor space. I'd do away with the wicker chair; it looks a bit out of place in the room. Arrangement Ideas for My Apartment? Good Questions |

Emma Jeffs window film! It's way prettier than some of the other films out there. It's a bit more expensive so order samples to test it out! http://www.emmajeffs.co.uk/ How To Cover Windows in Front Door? Good Questions |

JDad, I agree! I am a literature graduate student which mean that I spend a lot of time looking through loads of books for the one I need. When I switched to color coding, like 3 years ago, and not only does it look awesome but it is by far easier to find stuff. If you aren't visual this system probably won't work too well. I think partnership is great. My partner and I just tackled a giant junk closet together and I thought the pairing would be a disaster. But, it went very smoothly. We both can toss things quickly but it was helpful to make joint decisions. 5 Tips for Making a Fresh Start with a Partner |

I agree with Geckotoes, when I was a kid I spent a large portion of time in my closet reading on a sleeping bag and a heap of pillows. Heck, I still think little spaces like these are pretty rad! Before & After: Closet Turned Reading Nook on Ohdeedoh |

Lovely. I am not crazy about the canvas though...I would have liked a pop of color in there. Maybe using the same pattern with different colors or in red...But great work! Before & After: Pretty in Pink to Bold Black & White – Part 2 |

I think that Teapotrose is right. I believe that the desire to be useful and feel helpful is seen across genders. In my house my partner and I share the work load. In fact, when I seem to be cleaning too much he complains that he feels like he isn't doing his fair share. I can't imagine living in a house where I was expected to pull 95-100% of the chores. Maybe I just have to be a little jerky, but I might add something. Before you hire a cleaning service or maid service, it might be great to look into how much they pay their employees and what their general set up is. Many companies treat employees terribly with low pay and poor health coverage. This often results in cutting corners in cleaning tasks. I would probably steer clear of any large organization/company and go to a self managed maid to ensure that all parties are happy. It may cost a little more upfront but chances are the pay out will be so much higher in the end. How To: Prep Your Home for Cleaning Service | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I actually think that the sofa and chair could be great in this room. However, there is just too much black. I would switch out the rug with either a white (to make the room seem larger and create contrast) or another lighter color like pink. I think a large brilliant colored piece of art that you love could serve as a source for a color pallet for curtains, pillows and other accessories. I might also consider painting the matching chairs a bright color (or white) and switching out the fabric on them. And, I would love to see the black side table in a very bold shiny color. But, don't go over board with color, pick a few colors and find ways to add a punch here and there. Suggestions for a Modern Feminine Living Room? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York |
