I've had a Singer for about 6 years and love it! Taking classes helps immensely (I took a 6 week course at an adult education center), but you have to keep practicing so you don't get rusty even on scraps of fabric. Tips for Buying & Using Your First Sewing Machine |

Was just having a discussion with someone about this! My family used friends growing up and while inexpensive if something broke, there was no insurance or reimbursement. I learned from this and always hire moving companies for my moves. It's worked out great and well worth the cost. A Moving Story: Friends or Professionals? |

I cut my cable over a year ago then Netflix soon followed. I just wasn't watching either and now when I want to watch something I can find it streaming online for free or at the local library. Why Netflix's Price Hike Might Make Me Cancel for Good |

I grew up in a very organized household with a very Type-A mother. She convinced me that I was a very messy person but looking back I realize that I wasn't especially compared to what I saw when I visited my peers' bedrooms. Now that I'm an adult my parents' house is very unkempt and disorganized and now I'm the organized one! I think I'm now even more Type-A than my own mother. I pass on guests offering to wash dishes. I've had too many guests not do a thorough job and have found bits of food or lipstick marks caked on them later. I'm pretty Type A when it comes to handling my own cleaning. The Considerate House Guest | Apartment Therapy New York |

Growing up my parents had a TV in the bedroom and it was on constantly. Me and my siblings had TVs in our room as well. It makes for separation of the family and it absolutely kills intimacy. My husband and I agree 100% that we will never have a TV in the bedroom. Our bedroom is sacred and we plan to keep it that way. TV In The Bedroom: Yay or Nay? | Apartment Therapy Unplggd |

I've lived in 3 different NYC apartments and have fared well with early spring/late fall lease signings. I've found the landlords more willing to negotiate in the leaner months. Save on Rent: Don't Move Now! | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I have the Crate & Barrel bowls, and I love them! My husband's Nigerian-American, and he calls them "Africa bowls." He doesn't understand why I get so excited to use them as he says, "These aren't anything special; we use these all the time in Nigeria!", Acacia Serving Pieces: Serve It Up on Wood Roundup | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I've been looking for a retractable gate for around $100 that fits our 60" nursery doorway as it's just a converted doorless office. Nothing seems to be wide enough and in our price range. Any tips? Kiddy Guard: The Roll-Up Baby Gate Alternative | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |
