Wow, TEXTILES...lighten up! Hard surfaces aren't for everyone. You're right...it is genius, but not in the way you suggest. Like most anything, it's identifying a need and providing a solution!

If you're going to hack off the top and paint it as some suggest, I would sell it now, before mid-century becomes yesterday's news, and get something you really want with the money! It's nice, by the way...but I'm with Dulcibella and William Morris.

It's a great remodel and I'm sure Kelly's happy...but I have to agree with Star Princess, I knew there would be white cabinets before I even looked at the after photo! I can imagine ten years (or less) from now all the posts will be "boring white kitchens" updated with wood tones & color.....

You already tit the two things that I notices immediately! Install shutters on the front window...not necessary on the windows on the porch. Make sure the shutters are substantial. They should be the same width as the narrow side windows. Clean up the walls, trim, hardware, porch light , and front door as suggested.

I can't really tell if that's a narrow sidewalk or concrete edging along the front. If it's sidewalk cluster a few fairly large pots with evergreens and holly at the corner on the walk. Another possibity is early blooming shrubs such as forsythia. If there's bare dirt along the front wall put in bark or evergreen clippings.

Good luck...it's a handsome house!

If all the rest if the woodwork in the house stained I would be reluctant to paint it in the bathroom. If other areas already have painted woodwork go ahead and paint it white in the bathroom. If you don't paint the woodwork then paint the cabinets a dark brown/black. Use an eggshell/low sheen paint so the details on the doors disappear. If you paint the woodwork I would change out the doors on the cabinet. I would lean toward the dark paint option. The room is large enough that it can take some dark details and the contrast with the tile would look great.

The "no dollar/low dollar" things to do:

1. remove wallpaper border & repaint to match tile color
2. replace old outlet and switch plates
3. remove rugs, except possibly one nice one in front of the tub
4. replace door pulls and towel bars
5. replace lightbulbs with ones that don't stick out below the fixtures (I think they are canned lights?????)

If budget allows:

1. replace countertop
2. replace faucets (including tub to match)
3. replace shower door with frameless clear glass doors (if tub and shower is presentable, othewise remove existing doors and install rod & shower curtain).
4. replace miniblind with wooden ones to match the wookwork

Good luck!!!!

They're great...but only if the counter extends out far enough that your knee aren't banging into the cabinet when you sit down. Also the barstools need to be the correct height...for instance, in the photo attached to this topic the seats looks too high for the counter!

Do you happen to live in the Detroit area? I remember there was a nice upscale furniture store called Englander. (I'm not sure if it's still around since I'm no longer living there.) If it came from there I'm certain it was a very good quality product to begin with. Unless the fabric is worn or not an acceptable color (the photos actually look promising to me) replacing the seat cushions and adding a little stuffing to the back one seems like a viable option. I would definitlely investigate further!

In the lat 1970's, when I moved into my first apartment, it was necessary to take my laundry to the laundramat. The old guy running the place could tell I was a novice. He told me that I only needed to use half as much detergent as the manufacturer instructed. I've been doing it ever since!

#1 had a lot of potential, but the after was boring and safe. Marlee's comment that it was staged to sell, though, explains a lot. The after is more in line with what sells.

I also live in a Gold Medallion Home in a community of 150 homes built in 1967 in San Diego. The medallion is attached to the doorbell at the front door. The heating and dryer is now gas and a gas option is available for the range, but I'm not sure if this was added after.

The cart below the microwave appears narrower than the microwave cabinet. If this is the case I would consider having the side panels on the cabinet extend all the way from the soffit to the floor. I believe IKEA makes them in 12"x84" and 12"x96".

A little soot, especially during burning season, gives the fireplace a nice look. I have a painted one and just use Windex to clean it off once in a while. Obviously don't use a flat paint. My bricks are fairly smooth and I imagine more textured ones would be more difficult to clean.
