Should We Go Super Kitschy in Wood Paneled Room?
Good Questions

Please keep the wood! It looks like real tongue-in-groove - very cool & not at all like the cheap faux stuff found in basements. To keep stuff light (if that's what you're going for), I'd go with a white sofa or chair & bright accents. Modern-ish furniture can provide a nice contrast. Leather works well with wood. Plaid would also be rad. And the moosehead.
I'm not going to lie, I have a thing for wood paneling done right.

I vote Ewok. The warmth of the chairs contrast well with the coolness of the table.
Also, the Ewok chairs go well with the rolling wooden book case, soft sofa & warm wood floors you've got in the background. The whole look seems more organic & collected over time.

I think the storm trooper chairs seem too cold & modern for the space. I also think it looks very "Ikea"

It seems like you like the Ewok chairs better, too maybe?

Why live in a community designed around cars when you could enjoy one designed for people? Living in the suburbs would kill my soul. DC!!

Did I count 3 turntables? Awesome. I'm so glad to see another person who refuses to give up their records in the name of minimalism. Really nice furniture you've got for those stereos & LPs, too.

In DC, there are plenty of apartments in rowhouses. I live on the first floor of a 3 unit rowhouse, so I have the small space that comes with apartment living, but I also have outdoor space to consider (lucky me!).
So while we're on the topic of (presumably) urban gardens, has anyone had a problem with rats in their garden? If so, what did you do to keep them from eating your vegetables?
I've got a container garden on the back patio and my landlord mentioned seeing a huge rat back there. It's coming from the neighboring rowhouse (trash in the yard, not well-maintained, owned by a slumlord), and I've heard that there was a problem with rats next door before we moved in. I want to keep them out of my yard & away from my tomatoes. Any suggestions?

Knotty pine can add warmth & contrast to otherwise "cold" modern furnishings. Done right, it could be really interesting and awesome!

We've got a whole wall of it (real wood, tongue-in-groove, recovered from a museum in DC and distressed from years of wear) in our living room. It's definitely provided us with a design challenge (avoiding the cabin/pirate ship look), but it gets tons of compliments and we really dig it. Our decor would be considered masculine-vintage mixed with modern.

And, believe me, I've had knotty pine-related panics. In my distress, I found examples of modern, awesome interiors that contain wood paneling. Here are some of them:

Thanks everybody! I imagine that the limestone top puts this table out of my price range. I was hoping it was a distressed white wood.

I love, love, love your TV cart, kitchen island, and desk. I'm looking for something similar for my own place. Where did you find them? Did you powdercoat the TV coat yourself or did it come in that color?
Very, very nice place.

I'll third this: Where do you sleep? Including the furniture in your floorplan would be helpful if you're not willing to show your bed.

Maybe it's just because I've lived in DC for 6 years, but this thing reminds me of the pens people use to smoke crack & then discard. Just sayin'.

Sometimes a great solution just requires clever use of color.
This bathroom is amusing & has personality. Well done.
