I often mix baking soda and vinegar and pour it down my drains. Not sure if this will work for calcium, but it seems to help my drain problems.

We just moved and because we lived in a small space I didn't want boxes taking over the apartment. So the first thing I did was clean out cabinets and drawers, not pack them. Go through your bathroom and kitchen and make sure everything in them is going to the new place. Then I did bookshelves (remember not to pack those boxes too heavy). We were throwing our old ones out...so the boxes just replaced them. I would say we started atleast a month in advance and still were rushing at the end. I agree, art and wall fixtures are last.
The least you should do is start gathering boxes. My husband was lucky enough to score 60-80 computer boxes from a neighboring office that had just moved in. People also give them away on freecycle and craiglist. Also if you don't receive the newspaper, have some one start collecting it for you.

Oh this is one of the most hated features of our apartment. The only time it has had its benefits is when I am trying to cook and bathe a kid at the same time. Not only do we have a bathroom in our kitchen, but our kitchen also functions as our dining room, and laundry room. Way too many purposes for one room. Glad to be moving in 2 weeks!
