The Times had an article last year that mentioned in passing Obama's comment just before signing the executive order closing down Gtmo... he looked around the Bush decorated Oval Office which included some fancy traditional plates...his comment was something like "We have to do something about these plates. I'm not really a plates kind of guy." That just makes me smile.

ILoveUpstate- I think you're looking at a "before" picture.

I find this space very beautiful, but it wouldn't be practical for me... with no kitchen counters (how do you chop veggies?) and no bed (that I can see). The bathroom is especially gorgeous, though, and I love the shower solution.

Wow. I can appreciate a listing your personal favorite colors, but suggesting some be banned across the board? That strikes me as a bit much. Variety is the spice of life, my friend.

I think it's a very helpful introduction. And the beauty of his books lies in the stencils themselves, I think, as well as the description for how to make your own.

mjr, I agree that you're likely using too much paint. Super dry dabbing works best. Also, I read that using a spray adhesive to secure the stencil gives a better seal than tape, so that's another option to try.

It makes me feel lonely.

But I love that it is so different from the typical tours here, which sometimes strike me as new, modern, Eames chair cookie cutters.

I'm sure this home evokes whatever the owner wants it to evoke in her. Homes should be personal. It kinda bugs me when I read "I want to move in to this place" because what's most beautiful about a home is that it is entirely personal, a reflection of the person who created it.

The sleek, uncluttered design is appealing, and to each his own, but I find myself thinking no one lives there. Where's the personality?
