As a military wife I find myself in this situation quite a bit and living alone currently. I do spread out and get comfortable. It doesn't matter if I leave stuff around because there isn't anyone else to irritate by doing so. Then there are the other days where I also dig into projects and organization.

I made it to my local store on lunch (around 1:00 ) and the shelves were pretty bare. However, a second pass through the bedding section and there were several throws back on the shelf. I snagged one, a pair of shoes, a laptop sleeve and some other items and am pleasantly surprised. The throw is really soft and snuggly and also a really good weight and it doesn't feel like it will fall apart easily. I am hoping they re-stock some of the pillows over the next few days, but don't have the time to camp out at my local store either. I was actually kind of disappointed in the women's clothing selection though.

After much sofa research, my husband and I purchase the 4 piece axis sectional during the fall upholstery sale this year. I have to say, I have LOVED every minute of sitting on this couch. It pretty much hugs you when you are lounging. We have only had it for 4 months, but I am hoping it holds up over the years.

Very pretty! And I love the coffee table, where is it from?

I agree with BeeT...I'm not such a fan of home theaters like this. The best part of watching a movie at home is being able to snuggle in on the couch with a loved one. Although, I suppose if you have enough money for this kind of make-over, you probably have a normal living room to snuggle in and watch movies.

I really like the piece above the fireplace. Did you make it or did you buy it somewhere?

to SaucyKat and 580sqft...I agree...the furniture needs updating. I'm working with what I have. The sofas were purchased by my grandparents in 1981. We have a Crate & Barrel Axis sectional on the way (ordered 5 weeks ago). The coffee table will be replaced as well, but I am waiting for the sectional before we decide what else to do. We're on a tight budget and are working with military housing as well. My husband and I just got married 2 years ago and with his overseas military tours he had not had a chance to accumulate furniture or accessories and I have never had the budget or the need living in 1 room of a house. I think I mentioned that the room is evolving as most rooms should. I wanted to avoid going out to purchase an entire room of furniture and decor all at once to avoid the "rooms-to-go" look, but also didn't want to live in a white box either. This is a contest about color, not the quality of my furniture. I happen to love the color. If you'd like to offer suggestions and constructive criticism I am all open to it (like maybe a suggestion for updating the frames for the original artwork my grandmother painted, or what I might be able to add to give it an extra pop). And finally...in less than a year my husband will come down on orders for the next duty station and we will get to start all over again.

The snarky negative comments are really unnecessary.

nomadchicky, the curtains are from Ikea. I love that they come 2 to a pack and long with hemming tape included. We really like the burnout pattern on them too. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70141681

Thanks for the comment. I am also on the hunt for the perfect area rug and also a replacement coffee table. The mission is on hold until our sectional is delivered. 4 weeks down...4-10 weeks left to go. Hopefully by Christmas. For now, I'm on the lookout for some new throw pillows and artwork. I'd love to add some blue accents to the room to tie in with the art work above the loveseat. I also need a new lampshade for the white bamboo lamp in the corner.

Right, when I think of sprucing up a room "without shelling out a lot of money" I don't think of dropping $350 or even $100 on a pillow! Throw pillows are one of the most ridiculously overpriced things in my opinion...right up there with curtains...

My entryway is my laundry room and is tiny. I've been contemplating how to turn it into my landing strip for months and months with no good solutions. We're military, so I am sure by the time I am able to come up with something we will be planning out next move.

Anyone else with a tiny laundry room entry way?

We do have a front door to our house, but because of the way the house sits on the corner everyone approaches it from behind and parks in the driveway and enters through the garage.

One of my favorite kitchens that I have ever been in was a tiny Italian kitchen in my friends apartment in Rome. Terra cotta floors, turquoise walls....gorgeous and there was a yellow chair at the tiny table in a corner. I will never forget it.

I seriously think I have the matching end tables to that, or at least something similar that I got at an antique/thrift store. Link to picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathordern/4399555583/

I don't exactly have any tips on refinishing, but look forward to reading the advice you get and how you decide to proceed.

We have a sofa loveseat combo and its alright. We're in the market for a new set of some sort and are leaning towards a sectional. I really like the one pictured from WestElm. Does anyone know the quality of it? There is a similar one from LaZBoy which is REALLY comfortable, my friend has it, and it's slightly less expensive. Since this will be our first time purchasing a sofa, I would like recommendations for good quality options.

Thanks!

My lighting issue is slightly different in that my husband thinks that the overhead light that came with the ceiling fan in our rental home is sufficient and no additional lamps are needed. I on the other hand, avoid using the overhead ceiling fan light at all costs. I would rather have an several well placed lamps to create a nice glow and so that I can alter the amount and position of the lighting to my preference in the evening. During the day (when I am actually home that is) I prefer to open the blinds and use natural light.

Can I just say...thank you for this bit of entertainment at the end of this very long and slow day at work. I will be adding this to my google reader. :)

I'm stuck somewhere between love and hate. I love it cuz it's whimsical and fun, but it does make me sort of confused/dizzy looking at it. My eye just doesn't know where to go.

So nice to see my entryway here. It's a struggle in my house over lighting since my husband "just doesn't understand why we need so many lamps!" He is of the breed of men who think the overhead light that came with the ceiling fan in our rental is just fine.

Little does he know there is another lamp on its way from Virginia. Found it at a consignment store and my dad is shuttling it down for me. :)
