I agree with PP that Ferby pencils are wonderful - my son really took an interest in drawing once he had nicer art supplies! He is 9 also and loves the triangular Ferbys - they are so easy to hold and the color is lovely. Gift Ideas for 9-Year-Old Interested in Art Good Questions |

Love Ikea but definitely prefer not to go with kids! Smaland was great, for the 2 years my son was tall enough but not too tall for it. It's such a short window! Bring The Kids to IKEA |

We have a home-made doctor's kit. Instead of the bag, we keep it in a cardboard suitcase (like these: http://www.landofnod.com/kids-decorative-accents/kids-room-decor/pack-your-bags/f641), with a red cross glued on top. Much easier to store on a shelf than a bag! Make Your Own Play Doctor Kit |

Re: wipes warmers for cloth wipes. I agree with no need for this, in theory. But our faucet takes so long to warm up to even luke warm water that we've found the warmer indispensable. As our kids get older, they use the warm wipes to wash sticky hands and faces. Necessary? Maybe not. But I'd buy one again! Baby Products You Don't Need to Buy Man of the House |

Thanks everyone for the inspirations and suggestions! If my daughter were extremely clear on exactly what she wanted, it would be different, but other than "rainbow on my wall" she is pretty open so since I do have an opportunity to create something we will both love, I'm tyring to do just that! It's true that it is just paint (we're painting the whole room, not just the rainbow), but it's hard work to paint and I don't plan to do it again until she's old enough to do it herself, so I'd like to love it. I don't think that's too much to ask! I love the colorwash rainbow and also the one posted by brakeforbread. They are very different so I will see what we come up with! Thanks again for the inspiration and if anyone has suggestions for a blue that would be lovely for the walls, I'd love to hear it. Ideas for Painting a Tasteful Rainbow? Good Questions |

I think this is a lovely idea. We always let our kids eat some candy, but honestly, not letting my children eat an enormous bagful of candy doesn't mean they are deprived. They get plenty. We've cut down on it some years by not hitting as many houses, but the act of trickortreating is so much fun that I like the idea of "spending" some of the candy another way. Plus, these are just sweet ideas for coupons to use other times as well. Quick Tip: Trade Treats For Homemade Tickets Babble |

This is definitely lovely to look at but I think little ones would have a hard time with it. For one thing, lidded boxes seem to be hard for kid to use. And if they can get them off, they certainly aren't too inclined to put the lids back on! I think baskets that slide into an open slot are much for practical for kid supplies. I just wanted to write and say that contrary to what some in the news media are saying, not all baby slings are being recalled! The Infantino Sling Rider is what is known in the baby sling industry as a "bag sling" which baby carrier advocates have never recommended as a safe carrier for babies. The infantino carrier is not the same as a ring sling or a pouch. The safest position for an infant under 4 months is in an upright, or tummy to tummy position. I agree a wipes warmer is unnecessary for commercial disposable wipes - as far as I could tell they hardly got warm at all due to all the alcohol on them! I gave away the wipes warmer I got within a few months. Then when I switched to cloth dipes and wipes, I bought a new one - it is great for keeping cloth wipes warm. We still use ours even though our kids our out of diapers - we always have a warm washcloth available for wiping faces and hands! It's especially nice since our water takes ages to warm up. I adore this room! Robin's nest looks likely a lovely aqua blue on my screen, and I'm wondering whether you'd say it looks more green or blue irl. When I checked out the color at Benjamin Moore, it's on a shade that darkens to a color that is more green than blue. Would love to hear your thoughts!
