I thought it was refreshingly honest.

"As Dmitri Siegel put it: 'When you pile Etsy on top of Etsy, it gets really cacophonous: ‘Everything in here is totally unique!’ It starts canceling itself out.'"

And the quote about the bird pillows? YES.

Sure, it's great to know what you LOVE, and then to have enough faith in your personal aesthetic to believe that you'll still love it in 30 years, but what are the odds that in 10 years we'll look back on all the vintage suitcases and brass candlesticks and graphic posters and crewel pillows and cringe?

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I feel like it's a bit silly to take our trends so seriously.

I mean, clearly I don't hate him. He's so darn cute. I'm just so jealous of his abounding cleverness.

I've been pretty lucky on that front, actually. My parents are savvy collectors and any overflow from them is well-appreciated. My sweet MIL gave us a dining room set that I was initially really hesitant about, reassuring us all the while that we could paint, sell, dump, or do whatever else the heck we wanted with it, even though I know it held 25 years worth of memories for her. I reupholstered the chairs and it turns out the curvy dark wood is the perfect foil to our warm, modern ranch. I love it!

Wheat/cream/yellow-y beige will be a nice warm neutral and it will work well with all the other stuff you have going on in there..

Or, if you have a lot of art to hang, white walls would look great against the warmth and texture of that fireplace and the hardwood floors.

I think people here have made some good observations; already said things I had initially wanted to say.

Two things, though:

In the Bible, "Angels" are just messengers. We don't know what they looked like. Revelation has lots of info about people with wings, but they're called other things. I think most Christians probably realize this and just shrug it off, in the name of Christmas Tradition.

chairgal, everyone interprets the Bible differently, but after "they cut a tree out of the forest" "a craftsman shapes it with his chisel". I think most people read this to mean that the wood is used to build and idol which is then adorned "with silver and gold." I think the point here is that the Israelites aren't supposed to be afraid of foreign gods because they're just wood and paint. It means we can't bring idols, or things that we idolize, inside our homes - not plants. If a Christian's Christmas tree is more important to him than God (and I suppose that may be a legitimate issue), THEN he has a problem.

urbancricket and ishilou, I have to agree with you both. We've worked really hard to train our great dane puppy when it comes to guests.

With the holidays right around the corner, the post is ill-timed, sure, but maybe pet owners can consider it a reminder for next year.

No dane pictures??

Let's give AT the benefit of the doubt and assume they fixed the mistake and then deleted the posts so as not to confuse other readers. Nevertheless, a simple "thanks for the heads-up!" comment would have sufficed.

This picture IS difficult to decipher, but if the space is anything like mine, I think I understand the dilemma:

My front door opens into the living room with a huge blank wall directly to the left. Any dimensional object (bookshelves, credenza, etc.) against it blocks the straight'n'narrow pathway to the dining room. And yet the wall is a major focal point from the living room.

We both have me stumped.

I have a strict one-mirror-per-room policy (except in the case of twin mirrors in a bath), but it takes particular restraint when there are so many beautiful options.

I JUST SAW a 50's woven binder cane chair that is identical to the one you have in your living room. It was in the free stuff section of Craigslist... in Maryland. I passed it up because of the location (a good hour's drive from here), but after seeing it in your house, I am starting to change my mind...
