Single woman here. I was living in Arlington, VA while looking for a house to purchase in 1998. My only must haves were a teeny tiny bungalow with a front porch. I found that Takoma Park, Maryland had them in spades (funky progressive suburb of Washington, DC filled with craftsmen bungalows and victorians). But, before I bought my house, I drove through the neighborhood at all hours of the day and night (okay, not in the middle of the night), on weekdays and weekends to get a feel for it. Everyone walks in my neighborhood, so I would literally drive by women or a couple walking, role down my window and ask them about the neighborhood, was it safe, etc. Everyone was happy to talk to me and encouraged me to buy. My first week living there I was walking to my neighbor hood coop (2 blocks away) while hearing the bells ringing from an ice cream truck driving by. I had tears in my eyes as I finally felt like I had found my home. Insider Advice: 5 Tips on Finding the Right Neighborhood |

I JUST started a yoga class this week! I do believe you get what you pay for. I put off taking yoga for years saying it was just too expensive. Then, I realized I was worth it. I went to a well known yoga studio where they have hundreds of different classes. With previous problems (pinched nerve in neck and arthritis in lower spine), I opted for the Gentle and Therapeutic yoga class. It was hard, but I'll be back! I've thought of just starting to do a couple of poses (stretches) at home since I'm only going once a week. Comcast On demand also has some beginning yoga videos for free. Also, check your insurance! Carefirst at BlueCross/BlueShield (my insurance), gives discounts for some yoga instruction. You need to check with them first (online and type in your zip code and they will give you a list of instructors that will give the discount). The Unexpected (and Obvious) Joys Of Yoga At Home |

I bought my tiny 1937, 900 sq ft bungalow in 1998. It has a sweet front porch and I added a 12X12 three season porch on the back. Plenty of room for myself and my cats. The only thing that I HATE is the layout of the living room. No entryway and the front door opens right into the middle of the room so no good way to have a nice looking seating arrangement. I was getting ready to throw out my 15 year old worn and nasty dirty white wicker set when the recession hit. On second thought, maybe I'll just spray paint it!! The color was called Apple Green and I picked up some cushions on sale at Pier one and viola! Being a native St. Paulite from the West Side, would love to know what area of town you live in. Your house is a very typical style from what I remember (haven't lived in MN for 28 years!). I also loved the little note that read "St. Paul is the new Minneapolis" Anna's Danish Haven House Tour |

Behr makes a color named Pear that is very close to that. I thought I wanted that for my bedroom but it was just too bright. I choose Honeydew instead. Still very dramatic, but more green than yellow. Where Can I Get Fluorescent Yellow-Green Interior Paint?Good Questions | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I bought a patterned floral sofa in 1990 and it is great for hiding hair and non-removable stains when you have a herd of cats, but because of it, I felt I had to get a non-patterned area rug which is not so great when you have a herd of cats.
