Amazing. This clearly took hours, and yet no-one took a second to step back and think "Actually, this might look ridiculous...".

I can literally hear people cringing.

Thanks for posting!

patrick (the other one) - point taken :)

sorry my post came up twice - I thought the first one didn't complete, changed it, then they both came up. two bursts of egginess, so apologies.

I very much enjoy patrick (the other one)'s comments on tours, so it seems like a natural choice for him to get the job - good luck, p(too).

What irritates me is fellow Brits (I'm from, and live in, the UK) 'making up' phrases for the benefit of Americans and purporting them to be 'British'. I have never - EVER - in all my hours, months and years of watching British reality TV, heard it referred to as "factual reality progams", NOT EVEN when I'm watching a program ABOUT the making of reality programs in the UK.

This apartment isn't to my liking, but I'm not in the habit of being negative about other peoples' taste, so that's all good (although I think I can say that had the title been different and Nick's nationality not been referred to, I would never have known he wasn't from the US).

Also, Nick: please don't pretend to have a cache of "British" phrases to impress your colleagues with - AT has a huge British following, you know...Keep it real!

May I be the first to say absolutely stunning. This is just so beautiful - small and perfectly formed. The colour palette is perfect and the layout works so well. I am swooning.

Amazing - when I first read 'from brownstone to loft environment' I thought 'oof' and kind of feared the worst. But that'll teach me for being presumptuous - this is absolutely stunning. The balance between the old and the new is spot-on and I guess all you've done is make your house work for you, which is exactly how it's supposed to be, right?

The master bedroom is stunning. And I love all the books stacked up either side of the bed, that's just like my bedroom (but unfortunately, the similarity ends there).

Great job - thanks for keeping it 'lived in' for the photos too, and for not staging the shots. Tours are just so much more believable and human this way.

This is lovely. The light coming in through those lovely windows in the lounge is just dreamy - I'd love to sit in that chair and read a book. And I like how that big metal tv stand kind of makes the TV disappear but is still really accessible.

I love the upstairs too - the little office/guest nook and the bedroom. You both a have really nice way with colour.

Also, you live there and we can tell! Thanks for this tour - hope you're feeling more settled now :)

This home is beautiful. The colour palette of fresh blues, greys and whites, with some natural hues thrown in, is so fresh and clean-looking - I would imagine a house this size could look cluttered pretty quickly, but the decor makes all the difference. And I love that I can totally imagine kids running around here and not living in fear of getting yelled at for putting their feet on the Eames.

Who knew this one would cause controversy? I agree with all the commenters who say that inspiration for great design comes from everywhere, no matter the size of your own home - otherwise every Brooklyn studio apartment would look the same, every 1-bed Seattle apartment would look the same... I think the vast majority of Apartment Therapy readers are open-minded, non-judgemental design lovers who like to mix it up and have fun - there are no rules!

Don't be put off by the odd bad vibe, Lynn-Anne - your home is gorgeous :)

Apartment Therapy, I love you, but I couldn't read half of the wonderful descriptions/see the top left quarter of the photos because of a stupid American Espress banner advert that covered the whole thing, on every single page! I understand that you have to advertise to keep your wonderful site free, but PLEASE can you try and make sure your advertising doesn't impede the viewing of photographs, which is what your site is about! Thank you!

That said, this house is a dream. I LOVE how all those nooks are filled with bedding and cushions - so inviting. And the sleeping porch. Oh, the sleeping porch. What a dream to sleep outside and wake up to that beautiful garden. This place is so inspiring.

This is a fantastic house - it kind of made me feel like I was snooping round an eccentric recluse's mansion, lots of treasures and collections everywhere, and little nooks with opulent ornaments. I have to admit, my internal monologue was screaming "The dusting! Think of the dusting!" - I spend enough time dusting/vacuuming/cleaning my comparitively modest and comparatively minimalist apartment - to pick up all those knick-knacks and dust... well, shudder, really. But then I am incredibly anal and don't have children yet, so that may change.

But as for a place for kids to grow up - wow. I love it when parents provide an adventure playground home for their children, a place where half the work of their imagination is already done. Kudos for that :)

Also, I meant to say: if you are considering stripes, you could make them the same width as the decking outside and maybe even paint the decking the same colours, to create a nice feeling of continuity?

I agree with hrleise - something nautical and stripey would look fantastic, with that view.

Either that or I would put down an enormous colourful rug - reds, yellows, pinks, organges - to brighten up that whole corner.

Great place to dine though, it must feel like eating in a bay view restaurant every day!

What an amazingly comfortable, subtly colourful, spacious, kid-friendly, creative looking home.

This is the kind of place you would want to spend the rest of your days in - just wonderful.

I intend to move in immediately.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to call people who dislike this tour 'haters' - I personally think this tour in particular stands out as not really fitting in with the AT ethic...It seems like it should be in a glossy interiors mag rather than this website.

What I love about Apartment Therapy is that it shows real peoples' homes, with solutions they've come up with themselves to storage problems/how to hang art/furtniture finds/their own unique taste.

This tour doesn't seem quite right because it looks like everything was purchased brand new, with seemingly a limitless budget, and with labels and names in mind - so maybe not really in the spirit of AT. It would do fine in another format, maybe Elle Interiors or something, but maybe just not here.

Lovely tour and lovely place, Jessica. I remember your two other tours, so it's really nice to see your style translated into a larger space. I love that your spaces seem so liveable and laid out to suit your purposes, rather than meet some trend - that really comes across.

I love all the splashes of bright colour - the little vignette with the Moleskines and toy cowboys is so cute.

Can I ask you a question - who makes the set of 6 larger coloured notebooks in that photo? I love the colours.

Thanks Jessica, I really like your style :)

First of all, the space and the light is great in that room. Closing off the kitchen would be a real shame.

Building a table round the column would mean that no-one would be able to see each other when you are seated: not the most social of ideas.

You bought the space knowing there was a massive, immovable column in the middle of it: embrace it! I would have bookshelves build all around it's circumference, from top to bottom, and make a really practicable feature out of it, and move the dining area to the other end of the room where there's more light. It's nice to eat in front of a window.

It's a great room, own it!
