Cork! We have hardwoods, carpet, rubber, and cork all in different areas of our house, and by far I love the cork the most. It's toasty warm on my feet in the morning in the bathroom.
The only problem I know of is that if the sun shines directly on the cork, it fades really badly. Like it doesn't even look like the rest of the floor at all.

I have a buckwheat pillow that I LOVE. I am a side sleeper, it's perfect for my neck. That being said, it is a bitch to clean. It's easily an 1 hour long ordeal to try to get all the buckwheat out of the pillow out of that teeny tiny hole, then wash (or I bake the buckwheat), then wash the pillow case, then refill the whole thing. Not fun.

We did a small remodel last summer and the most expensive thing was the hood. We got a HUGE professional grade hood that actually makes it difficult to close the front and back door when it's running on high because it's sucking so hard.

We have remodeled almost the entire house, and by far, the most awesome, worthwhile investment was the hood.

I just made this one last night. It's Jerry Traunfeld's (formerly of the Herbfarm) and of course it's loaded with herbs. The texture is amazing, it melts in your mouth.

I don't understand why you believe that drinking juice instead of eating the entire vegetable is giving your body a break.

That is so cozy and cute, I love that the bed's tucked into a little nook. I could not sleep with cupboards above my head, though.

If you're feeling adventurous, norwegian lefse is one of the most delicious and comforting things I have ever eaten. Our neighbor used to make them with us and we'd eat them fresh off the griddle with butter. She would also send us home with a ziploc bag full which would sometimes get frozen, they thawed nicely.
They are normally cooked on a big electric griddle, the same type of thing you'd do fresh tortillas on, but I am positive you could improvise.

We buy the bulk of our food at the farmers market and then I spend a little time throughout the week figuring out what I might like to do with the stuff. The only time we really plan something out is on the weekends when we invite friends over.

I have to keep a few staples on hand to make this work; olive oil, butter, cream, chicken stock, eggs, parmesean, flour, polenta, and a stocked spice drawer.

Even though I don't "plan" meals, I spend a great deal of time during the day dreaming about food, so that's probably why this works for us.

Krister,

I do appreciate at's focus on organizing and simplifying. This to me is perpetuating the opposite of simplifying and paring down. It's running out to buy new cans so that even your paint cans can be displayed without any drips. And then throwing the old ones in the garbage.

Where does the organizing obsession stop. This should not be on at, it has nothing to do with design.

I used to have a roommate that organized the contents of our fridge by height and colors, it reminds me of that.

Rarely. I had a homemade dark chocolate brownie with almond butter and chunks of almonds and walnuts this morning! But I always need a decaf americano. I load it up with some half&half so at least it's some calories.

We have expanko rubber and cork tiles. I love them, but I also sweep daily and mop about every other day. We have dropped heavy things on them and not noticed any denting. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with is we didn't install a new subfloor, just filled and thoroughly sanded the old subfloor and you can see every little imperfection through the tiles.

I made the recipe suggested by casfl72 and it was the best frozen yogurt ever. It tasted like a fresh peach but amplified and a little bit creamy. Yum.

We decided to ditch our t.v. a few years ago, very ceremoniously on superbowl sunday and have never looked back. I found myself constantly turning it on when at home and 2 hours later, I'm still sitting there when I really had a bunch of things I was looking forward to doing. If there's something really big we want to watch on t.v. we go to our local brewpub and watch it.

Try it! No t.v. for one year and see if you even care about t.v. at all anymore!

We also have only one car, but I am a 25 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride from work. It would be difficult otherwise.
