Holy s*&t! Wow! I love the way you used the space above the wall cabs for wine storage!!! And, surprisingly, I really really like the penny round backsplash.

For the first time in 7 yrs, I completely rearranged the furniture in my small living room. I normally don't like pushing the "bigger" pieces of furniture (sofas, etc.) against the wall, but I pushed all of the big upholstered pieces against walls and left two small mid-century occasional chairs floating in the middle of the room. Made a huge difference! It really made the living room feel larger. Also, previously there was a lot of wasted space. The reconfigured living room has a small area where my two chihuahuas can run around and play and go WWF wrestling on each other.

Totally guilty of No. 2 - trying to incorporate contemporary pieces and less iconic mid-c pieces in my home.

I read somewhere that hardwood floors should only be cleaned with a liquid cleaner maybe twice a year at most. So, I've instructed the cleaning lady to just simply sweep or vacuum the hardwood floors. I've spoken with my coworkers about this, and I'm definitely in the minority in this regard. They get their hardwood floors mopped biweekly.

I can't imagine sleeping in bed without my two girl chihuahuas. Every night, when it's time for me to go to bed, I yell "Uppy Puppy!" and they immediately start jumping around because they're so excited to go upstairs and lie on top of the fluffy comforter.

@archdarling - I total up all my online purchases for the tax year and then multiply it by 4.5 or 5 percent and put that amount on the tax return form.

On the Virginia tax return form, we're supposed to (honor system) report and pay taxes (approx. 5 percent) on all items purchased for personal consumption for which no sales tax was charged. Consequently, I end up paying taxes on all my Amazon purchases.

I was suprised by how many of my fellow VA residents simply left that section of the tax return blank. As much as I despise the homophobic rancor that frequently comes out of our state assembly and senate, I try to imagine that a majority of my taxes will ultimately find a way back to Northern Viginia to, as themoderngal stated above, fund education and infrastructure.

Love flor catalogues! Love their products, too!

I like it! I really wanted to incorporate corten steel in my own modern landscaping. However, it was just too expensive.

Honestly, I'm a sucker for "The Polar Express" every holiday season. Have not seen it in 3D, though.

I purchased custom bench cushions for outdoor seating at cushionsource.com. I thought they did a very good job. You're cushions might be considerably more expensive, because I'm assuming you're going to need a thicker mattress. My 4" thick, 8 foot long bench cushion ran about $225.

I was planning on purchasing a rug with modern geometric shapes, but I like the look of these Persian rugs. They would add a sense of warmth/richness to my modernist living room in that Metropolitan Home magazine (I miss you Met Home!) sort of way. I am definitely going to reconsider my future rug purchase options.

If I had to buy just one cardio machine, it would be a spin bike because of it's versatility. You can ride the bike seated or standing up, like a "real" bike. It's an amazing core workout.

Admittedly, I'm biased, because I'm both a bike commuter, as well as participate in cycling classes taught by a pro.

Another home workout alternative is power or flow yoga. I recently started taking classes, and I've become addicted. Minimal equipment needed. A couple of dvds, yoga mat and one or two yoga blocks.

After three years of living together (sleeping in separate rooms), my partner got a sleep study done and was diagnosed with medium severe apnea. The cpap he uses is impressive - it's so quiet, and he wakes up with tons more energy than before.

Unfortunately, they don't make cpaps for my snoring (more like snorting) chihuahuas.

I think that show, Urban Gardens, hosted by Matt James, was also on HGTV for a while. I find the current crop of gardening shows on HGTV somewhat tiresome. Granted, I did enjoy Yard Crashers when it first came out, but I'm pretty much over it.

This is my first comment on any of the Room for Color entrants. Though this isn't my personal style (I'm a modernist through and through), I really love the vintage-y (yet, not dated) vibe this room gives off. The decor and use of color doesn't feel forced. Distressed or antiqued hardwood floors, though, would look amazing in this room.

I love painted hardwood floors, especially white painted floors. Although I have hardwood floors, I just can't bring myself to do it in my own home. I keep thinking: "Resale value, resale value, potential buyers just won't 'get it,' don't do it!"

@LisaLovesGary - re: rugs. I totally relate. I have given away rugs (including a 8x10 DWR rug to a coworker that I got on major clearance) because, again, it just wasn't "right." This needs to stop!

Poker or other card betting games for smaller get togethers. One such game, called Guts, is great, because it requires very little thinking (read: you can still play this game successfully even while drunk).
