I am a textile addict too. In particular textiles from India. I have a whole IKEA PAX unit filled with textiles. My most beautiful sari is hung from a decorative metal rod above my sofa in the living room, centered between my two living room windows.

The important thing is that I know each and every textile in my collection will eventually have its day. In fact, I bought a particular piece of orange sari fabric about 5 years ago and never used it. About two weeks ago I pulled it out and realized it was the perfect fabric to drape over the back of my sofa, replacing a different fabric that had been there for a couple of years. Now every time I come home I think how happy I am that I bought that piece of fabric, and how beautifully it enhances the colors in my living room rug.

Beautiful textiles are indeed art, and bring me such joy.

um, did the Arm and Hammer toothpaste people discontinue the "Original" flavor? I can't find it anywhere. What should I do? I am in despair....

The Eaton by Dellarobia has a similar feel.

The picture is a sectional, but I think it comes as a sofa too (check the PDF on the website).

Looks great.

Where is the super cool flower image used over the bed previously? I think they found it on the street in front of GAP.

Lady J-
You made me laugh so hard.

Sorry about your frustration, I hear you. I have a question though, when you said you hadn't bookmarked the Cure on your work computer...are you not using a bookmarking website? I could have sworn you were the one that introduced me to Del.icio.us and that whole concept (which has made me sooo happy!)!

1. 16-foot ceilings

2. Old style NYC apt casement windows 16 feet high (or
thereabouts) to go with my ceilings

3. A gloriously large bathroom flooded with natural light, attached to a dressing room not unlike the one in Mommie Dearest

And... a sewing/exercise room.

A big thumbs down to AT for posting such a picture on this website; a website where people come to see design images, not objectifying images of women. This is not the first time AT has posted pictures such as this, and this is not the first time people have complained. I am surprised that AT has chosen not to respect the requests of many of its readership on such a serious and sensitive matter.

AmyE,
I agree with you. I don't mind the round up so much if the purpose is to give the editors a vacation so they don't have to write new material. I think it is important that everyone gets to take a break. However I do feel that during these days of round ups, there should still be open threads so those of us who want to discuss can continue. But without the open threads, the difficulty of navigating the round up posts, and the painful clutter of the website, I am feeling really sad and disappointed about AT. I know Maxwell mentioned that they were working on the clutter issue - I would love to hear on update on that so those of us who are trying to be hopeful have something to look forward to.

Maxwell,

Glad to hear that you are indeed working on the clutter issue for the new design for the website. I am with bronxmaria, the new design still is not visually pleasing to me. In fact, I actually find it stressful to look at the website now. I'd like to reiterate some suggestions that others have made on how to possibly make the site more peaceful looking:

-Removing the tabs at the top
-Moving all of the ads to the right side (or at least not
having so many intermixed in the central column)
-Reducing the number of fonts. When I opened up the new site for the first time, my immediate reaction was "how many fonts are on this page!!??" and my eyes hurt.
-Using subtle colors for the background such as a lighter grey and a darker grey to help the central column stand out and make the space more peaceful and less jarring. I don't think the white is working anymore.

I find this post confusing too. This vacuum has been available in the US for years now. You can get it just about everywhere, for $99 or less. There are 145 reviews for it on Amazon in the US:

I have it and have to agree with sdmika, after a while the upright portion is useless and all you have is a functional handvac.

Wow, you are right. I clicked on the AT store per your recommendation. Indeed, like a breath of fresh air. The difference is amazing. I wonder how long it will be before that page is made ugly too?

I am feeling so sad.

This is what I like:

Finally you can scroll to past pages at the bottom instead of that "more" button that just took you to the archive listing. Thank you for making that change!

This is what I hate:

I do not find the site visually pleasing. It is cluttered, busy, the opposite of peaceful, jarring, and tacky. As someone else mentioned today, pretty much the opposite of what we are supposed to be doing for our homes. It would be nice if the visual look of the site could emulate the AT philosophy rather than contradict it. (And despite my earlier protestations on the adverts, I do now feel that it would be possible to design a site that was beautiful and visual pleasing and still gain revenue from adverts.)

This is what I haven't decided on:

Functionality. I will have to play around with the site(s) for a bit to see if I like how the re-design functions in terms of moving from one city to the next, being able to post or find posts, search, follow along, etc.

P2-

NYC does require recycling of paper in residential buildings, as in, it is the law. I do agree with you, however, that many people unfortunately do not follow the law.

Did anyone hear that bit on NPR the other morning about how the trash in the subway stations is actually separated? After the bags are collected, they are taken to a plant where the paper (and other recyclables) are separated out. Although I think source separation is better, I didn't know the city was truly doing that with subway trash.

kdkaboom-

Are there still some perfumes/fragrances that you do like or can wear?

I am extremely sensitive to smells and they often make me nauseous as well. However there are smells that I also enjoy. I wear one perfume and if I smell that it makes me happy and relieves me of any bad smell in the vicinity if I spray it on me or in the room. So for example I keep a bottle in my office and if someone nearby has food that gives me a headache (fish, fried foods, etc.) I spray it and it does help a lot. If perfume or coffee beans don't work for you, what about a sachet of cloves?
