Hope you had fun with your *silver hammer,* Maxwell. You (and AT) are dead to me now.

It's a lovely home.

Agree with those who decry the term 'starter home.' It would be akin to me calling my spouse 'my first husband.' It dishonors the home (or husband).

Thanks (?) for showing us the bathrooms of the 1%. They're just as tasteless as I would have predicted.

@leapkate: You are not alone!

The photo that was chosen (and I emphasize this word) to illustrate this post leaves me totally cold. THAT kitchen would most definitely drive me to order take-out, with not a cookbook or utensil in sight. Not even a bowl of fruit !

Betwixt total chaos/clutter and mindless sterility lies a vast area that deserves to be explored.

What a fantastic place! I could spend hours just puttering in the garden/terrace area. Love the big blue front door. And what type of plant is that climbing your walls... some sort of succulent?

Looks great. I'd be tempted to try it w/metal spoons (from the thrift shop) but that might make it quite heavy and I'd need to use some type of saw to cut off the spoon handles. And that's a LOT of spoons... actually the plastic looks quite nice! '-)

Truly awesome design. The logistics and technical skills necessary to achieve this? Even more awesome. I can see it happening in a country like India, with plenty of relatively cheap (though obviously skilled) manual labor. In many other places I imagine it would be cost - prohibitive.

I live about an hour away but haven't been in decades. There are probably some great finds to be had, but the scope is just too vast and the experience too exhausting, IMHO. Not for the faint of heart.

Plus, dealers from the west coast come to find things generally not seen on their side of the country, and they're prepared to pay big bucks because they have clients who they know will make it worth their while; this drives up the prices for everyone.

It has gotten to the point where I use Anthropologie -- their stores and their catalogs -- as idea sources only. Their prices are beyond ridiculous (with a few exceptions) and way too much of their stuff is made (cheaply) in China.

LOVE my speckled black Corian countertops (color = Mardi Gras) and chalkboard paint cabinets!

I'm *rooting* for them to go all the way to the top! I figure it's quite possible, as they'll naturally seek more light and thus climb as far as they can go. Will await the updates!

I appreciate the fun and lighthearted touches inside and outside this home.

As for the Thomas Jefferson "quote," let's be both accurate and grammatical. What he said was "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal."

Agreed. I would like it as an outdoor light, with a reactive metal base and with NON-stainless (or silver) spoons, so the whole thing would acquire a tarnished/weathered patina.

And, to substantiate Fifthpocket's point, that's a fairly jaunty angle on the leg shown in the foreground of the first photo.

The composition and colors of that first photo are stunning... like a painting.
The path, however, looks a bit treacherous.

Cute in the close-up, but from a normal viewing point it seems this would be so subtle as to be virtually invisible.
