I still use my dream machine! My parents bought it for me in 1984 or 85, when i was 8 or 9 years old. Almost thirty years later, i often wish it would break already - i'm so bored of it - but it just won't die!

I love the furniture Mash produces, but i really wish they'd make it available in some different wood finishes. I'm never going to buy pale wood for my current home, but i would totally buy an item from them if it came in any sort of medium-to-dark tone.

What the heck is a 'set' of towels? I buy multiples of bath towels and hand towels, but i've never encountered a 'set'?

Switch to a glass coffee table, and on some colourful throw cushions - i think pink+orange+colour of your rug would be a great combo.

I've stayed in plenty of hotels without bathrooms, but i'm not really sure i understand why "lots of hotels are like this" is an argument for "why is this home like this".

I agree that Luke has done a good job of creating an attractive teeny space. I just think that i don't understand the choices he's made, from a practical living perspective.

I think the thing that really throws me off, more than the lack of bathroom or kitchen, is the sofa. Its totally straight-backed and doesn't have any arms, so the only way you could sit on it is stick-straight-upright staring at the white wall 2 feet away. What an uncomfortable way to relax and read, or sit and eat (without anywhere other than a white cushion to put food down). Within another person over, you'd have to sit sideways on the couch, or stare forward together at the wall. I can't imagine doing much more in that apartment other than sleeping and making a quick breakfast, which is totally fine, except it makes the presense of the couch even stranger. Why not just have a bed or daybed or pullout couch, (or two chairs facing each other) and re-gain both 10 inches of horizontal space and extra practicallity? i feel like the sofa is cleverness in the absence of purpose?

If this apartment is about the 'NYC lifestyle' than why is it trying to be something else?

Very impressed with making such a teeny space so livable looking. (Also, my great-grandfather founded that mattress factory! My dad has told stories about his not-so-fond memories of summer jobs there, and i get such a kick out of seeing it as condos!)

This house might be very nice, but i think the attempt at interesting vantage points for the photos have sort of obscured the house itself. This looks like a nice home, but i'm not really wowed from a design or decor perspective.

This is not an apartment. At best, it's equivalent to a dorm room. Although that sofa/bed combo may make it more analagous to a sleep compartment on a train.

I almost suspect that this entry is poking fun at the ridiculous pride that this contest puts on living in as small a space as possible. If someone really does live here (and perhaps uses a shared bathroom), then i commend them on avoiding living in a box (the only way this could get smaller) with so much style and panache.

Also, couldn't you just use a tension pole since your window is in that little nook?

Right now, the tv stand looks sort of black and hulking compared to the delicateness of everything else, and its position is cutting up the impact of the windows. Also, by placing the chairs on opposite sides of the tv, they look sort of random, instead of as a little reading/conversation nook.

Here's what i would do:
- Put your tv stand in the corner on an angle, and in the other corner, place the two white chairs with the little table & lamp between them.
- Get some pretty boxes (wicker or fabric) and place the stuff inside your tv stand in them, and then put them in the tv stand. It'll make it look like a coherent display piece, rather than exposed storage.
- Add two more curtain panels, so that you have a panel hanging between each window AND at the ends
- Get rid of the green & orange print above your console. Its too 'bought at the mall' looking, and doesn't really align with the mood you're trying to create
- Get some chunkier items 0a vase?) to put on the console, or more multiples: something to unite it as a display area, rather than having it look like a few small knick knacks

My, aren't you pleased with yourself!

Thank god you have that chartreuse throw. It's the only thing that's keeping your apartment from looking like a set from a movie about the dystopic future, where happiness is against the law.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES EVERYONE!

My concern was that chopping the legs would indeed make the proportions look weird, and i didn't want to figure that out by trial and error, since it's not like you can un-chop!

It seems like there's a lot of mixed responses - chop the legs, don't chop the legs its fine, it'll look weird as a tv stand because its a desk. Hmmm.

I have the tv sitting on top of the desk now, and while it does feel high to me, i'm going to give it a couple days to get used to it. And yes, i think i will indeed put a shelf across the open area for the dvd player!

Why not do the frosted glass, but only on the lower two thirds? That way it hides your bed and any mess, but still lets the light and view to the window through to the rest of the apartment?

This place is so dramatic! Its one of the first entries that has the "wow I could never pull that off myself" AND "I would totally want to live there" factors going at the same time. Super impressive!

(Also, i think i might directly copy the marimekko fabric 'art'!)
