Tonight were trying out a recipe from Epicurious for skirt steak with shallots, greens and goat cheese that specifies using the broiler for the steak. As a transplanted New Mexican, my mouth is watering just reading the recipe. The smokey heat of the chile, the sweetness of the strawberries all cut with the tart fat of the cream. Yes, please. On the sweet chile/fruit note, I once had a fresh peach ice cream flecked with red chile flakes and toasted pine nuts that blew my mind. Just as an aside - If somebody was to shell out the $20K for this piece, just a word of caution that the market was flooded with fakes of this piece (as well) as the companion print, LSD a few years back (fake signatures, fake edition numbers, etc) and being passed off at not fake prices. It's a Damien Hirst - also known as the man behind shark-in-a-tank, splatter tie dye and diamond-skull fame amongst other things. Somewhere in Seattle, a Damien Hirst print is crying out to be hung... Seriously though - your taste is impeccable. It's a gorgeous combination of high and low, design and art. Hi Ana... I know I commented on this when it was first posted but there seems to be no trace. I love how pulled together and easy the flow is in this space - having at one point lived in exactly the same layout with a man and a cat, I also have a great appreciation for how effortless you made it look. Also, it's colorful while still feeling light and clean... Oh, and before I forget - the Pearl Jam posters are one of the better examples I've seen on parlor hanging. Cohesive rather than clutter-y. My favorite all time borscht is the "Ukrainsky Borshch" from the Sept/Oct 2002 issue of Saveur (alternately titled "Ukranian-Style Beet Soup"). There was a long thread about this on Chowhound at some point. http://www.saveur.com/article.jsp?ID=38661&typeID=120 The first time I had it was as the main course of a dinner party and it blew everyone away, beet and non-beet lovers alike.
