My late 1800's/early 1900's Richmond, VA neighborhood lacks the front lawns and still looks gorgeous. I'm plenty fine having a few plants in front and more space for my veggie garden/patio in the back. The Case Against the American Front Lawn |

We recently replaced the countertops in the kitchen of our 100 year old home with butcherblock and have absolutely loved it. We sealed it several times over with food safe butcherblock oil and haven't had any problems. I just couldn't see putting granite or anything super modern in such an old home. We're very happy in the end. Ultimate Guide to Choosing Countertops: Pros & Cons |

We just updated our kitchen and added a white subway tile backsplash. Our home was built in 1914, so we wanted something classic. It made a huge, huge difference and we love it! Subway Tile In The Kitchen |

My husband and I have been painting our whole 1914 home and have tried everything at this point. We've decided that, especially with our old walls, cutting in is the best method for us - nice angled brushes are a must! The only place we've used blue tape is along our freshly sanded wood floors. Nothing's perfect, but it's coming along well. Cutting In: What's Your Preference? |

My husband and I used Olympic's Secret Passage in our dining room and it turned out great. It's a nice light, silvery gray that isn't too overpowering. I was actually pleasantly surprised, as I know gray can be tricky to get right. Shade of Gray to Complement New Bedroom Decor? Good Questions |

My husband and I moved into our first house just over a month ago and unpacking the kitchen first was a serious lifesaver. We were having our wood floors redone and being able to access things in the kitchen actually made it feel a little like home amidst the chaos. What to Open First When You Move |

I love the 3m Command velcro strips for putting things on the wall in a grid. They hold really well (I have mine holding a grid of mirrors that you can see in my blog) and the great thing is that, because they're velcro, you can move your item if it is crooked or out of place. They totally save me when it comes to mounting anything that needs to be really well lined up. Best Ways to Affix Photos Directly to the Wall? Good Questions |

So many great ideas! I definitely want to do a backsplash - I didn't even think of it, but it's a great idea. And I love the idea of blue/turquoise color. Decorating Inspiration for a Blah Kitchen? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York |
