Unfortunately this brings to mind a recent NPR story about the homeless in Tijuana digging and living in mud caves along the river there...

Great cards, but with just four days left before Mother's Day, there really isn't enough time left to purchase online, wait for it to arrive, then get it to my mother.....

The SF Planning Dept. permitted work hours for building construction run from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week, including holidays.

Having to listen to a nail gun, air compressor, or general pounding for that amount of time could test the patience of anyone close by.

Over the years as we've worked on our house here in SF, we've always quit at 5:00, and never imposed on neighbors' Sunday expectations of peace and quiet.

"Noise", not nose, of course!

Re: neighbor complaints about nose - how early do your contractors start, and when do things quiet down for the day?

Weekends can be especially hard to navigate, as it's a great time to accomplish a lot on that project list, but your neighbors are probably looking forward to peace and quiet at the end of the work week.

Whatever you do, don't keep them cooped up in a terrarium or glass globe - good air circulation is as important as light (bright, and lots of it) and adequate watering (determined by how dry and bright their environment is).

Is the "Noble Savage" tea blend as tasteless as its name?
And well played on the fur tea cozy - it is an early April farce, right?

We removed sliding tub/shower doors, tried to live with a shower curtain for a few months, but eventually had new glass doors re-installed.
As serious hot shower lovers, the curtain never held in as much relaxing steam as the doors, and since we used the lightweight liner like you, we needed small round magnets to secure it to the tub - yet it still billowed in while we showered and made the whole experience very claustrophobic....

Would like to second Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad, and add "Girls" and "Deadwood" to the list - HBO produces some of the best stuff around.

Are the large plants with the palmate leaves castor bean?
If so, do you have to take any special precautions to keep your dog safe from poisoning?

Vinegar will always be my first choice (unbeatable combination of cheap+effective+ready to pour), but this might be a viable alternative to windows behind planted outdoor areas and window boxes, where you try and avoid leaf damage from the vinegar spray.

My home for the past 37 years has provided me with both urban and rural amenities - at the top of a steep hill (little traffic) in San Francisco.
Surrounded by neighbors who rarely use their yards or decks, we've always had chickens in the backyard and Cooper hawks overhead....
Great Thai or Indian food delivered when required, weekly farmers' market and city diversions just down the hill.
It doesn't get any better than this.
