Yes! I once made a bean soup that I neglected to read required being simmered for 2 hours. By the time dinner was ready we were full from snacking all evening. It was delicious the next day though. Read the ENTIRE Recipe! Reader Resolutions 2013 |

Ginger snaps. I can't remember where I got the recipe I used last year but it seems like every time I make them I end up with a ton! And they're perfect for the holidays. What Are Some Good Cookie Recipes for Making Large Batches? Good Questions |

I clean like mad before some people come over (parents, first time visitors, etc.). But when it's friends who visit all the time I just do a quick version. Wash dishes, wipe counters in the bathroom, consolidate junk in the living room, make sure there's nothing obviously gross laying around. Don't forget juicing. Almost any raw fruit or vegetable can be juiced. While smoothies and soups are great for fiber, juice is also a tasty way to get nutrients. Help! My Boyfriend Is Injured. What Can I Make That He Can Eat Through a Straw? Good Questions |

Before I met my boyfriend and decided to settle down in my current city I used to dream of living in NYC. I make a decent salary but couldn't afford to live in Manhattan for long. My plan was to save up and live there for at least a year, and then move to Brooklyn or an area a little more affordable. Living In The Most Expensive Cities: How Long Can We Keep This Up? |

My parents are from Connecticut and always made the Grinders from their childhood. Crusty bread drizzled with olive oil, hard salami, provolone cheese, tomato seasoned with salt, pepper, and oregano, and crispy lettuce. Makes me think of home. Plain old grilled cheese hands down. Cheapo wheat bread, american cheese, cooked until crispy and melty in plenty of butter and then dipped in ketchup. Yum. If You Had to Eat Just One Sandwich for the Rest of Your Life... What Would It Be? |

Fresh homegrown tomato and good mayo on any type of bread I have on hand. Scrambled egg and american cheese on toasted whole wheat is a regular for breakfast. And ditto about the hummus and cucumber on pita. That's one of my favs. Saveur's Best 2-Ingredient Sandwiches |

I have a variety of grocery stores within a 5 minute drive from my house, all on my way home from work. The one exception I make is driving 20 min to the west side of town to go Trader Joes every once in awhile. How Far Do You Travel For Groceries? |

I love my shoe rack that I got from walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Shoe-Rack/15566795 It's cheap, you can expand it horizontally, and you can stack multiple units. My old apartment I had several stacked in a really tall narrow configuration. Now I have it in 3 separate really wide racks. Best Shoe Racks, Cabinets & Stands 2012 Apartment Therapy's Annual Guide |

I keep my kitchen stocked with basics but any special ingredients are purchased as needed. I'm terrible at planning meals more than a few days ahead. I have a couple simple meals in my routine that I always have ingredients for, but aside from that I'm a slave to my cravings. If I planned to make lasagna but I'm craving tacos, I cannot get myself to make and enjoy lasagna. To avoid food waste, I wait to buy fresh ingredients until the day of unless it's something I know will get eaten in another meal before it spoils. What Are Your Best Meal Planning Tips? I've only made eggs benedict at home one time. It's too hard to get everything ready and warm at the same time. Toasted muffin, crispy ham, runny egg, and perfect hollandaise. No thanks! I'll stick with simpler dishes at home and leave this sort to the pros. Recipe: Lighter Eggs Benedict with Mock Hollandaise Sauce Recipes from The Kitchn |

No outlets is a major inconvenience. I lived in an apartment that had just one in each room. It was super annoying. Christmas lights? forget it. Toaster and coffee pot? no room. Vacuum while the lights are plugged in? nope. You end up making so many choices based on where the outlets are that it's really annoying. Help! No Outlets in Kitchen or Bathroom Good Questions |

This is my biggest pet peeve when traveling. I'm a vegetarian and there are never any "grab and go" vegetarian options. I usually end up with french fries or a stale scone. Salads and sandwiches all have meat on them. One time I found a snack size container of hummus and crackers. That was pretty exciting. Since you mention that the layout has problems, drawers and shelves are bad, and appliances are about to die, I think the only solution is to rip everything out and start over.
