What kind of paint did you use? I'd be concerned about it being toxic.

I use a combination of running the dishwasher and using it as a drying rack for handwashed items. Depends on my schedule, mood, how many and what size dirty dishes I have - and how far I've fallen behind and/or run out of certain dishes.

How handy are the new owners? The more talented you are, the more options you will have. Also, budget is relative. Even a new floor is very expensive, so hopefully there is something in usable shape underneath. You would not want to invest in a new floor if you are going to change out the cabinets in a few years. If you are not handy, even a vinyl floor can run more than a $1,000 installed.

Also, the more folks shop at Home Goods, the more great stuff for YOU at the flea market.

Don't take your "stuff" so seriously. Shop where you want.

I love treasure hunting in Home Goods. Yea, I'm amused by some of the stuff and some of the prices. But I don't really want to go to a flea market to buy towels or sheets.I don't buy a lot there, but if I'm nearby with some extra time, I pop in and may buy something.

I also go for the entertainment. I love to listen to the shoppers there.

There's the suburban mom telling her daughter how to decorate her dorm room, first apartment, marital home. Mom is in charge if you listen. She's telling her the room will pop with this, or this will be perfect with that. It's hilarious. The poor girl isn't allowed to figure out her own style. Heaven forbid she make a decorating mistake.

I also like to eavesdrop on the gay male couples. They discuss together whether or not they a potential purchase is what they both want. I usally will maneuver over to see what has caught their eye. Their choices are usually classier and more creative -- to my eye -- than suburban mom's choices.

How many of your friends' houses do you go to and absolutely LOVE every decorating decision they make? Probably few if any.

Enjoy your home, enjoy your stuff, but don't fret about whether or not someone else shops at Home Goods. Why do you care?

Not even the same artwork. Why is the focus on the wall color when it's really an overall redo?

In some places, if you change out the fixtures, they now become the property of the landlord. Perhaps the landlord will let you buy something if you show them what you want and possibly they will install it for you. Also, I think there you can buy kits to change the blades in the fan.

I would not take down the doors, creating a storage issue and the possibility that they get damaged in the process. If you live here for awhile, the landlord might be more likely to go along with major changes, painting a wild color, etc.

I think accessories, curtains, etc. are the answer.

Save your money and buy a place that you like better or can remodel to your heart's content.

A friends has a collection that's probably 25 years worth of tickets that she put in those plastic lucite box frames. I don't think they are arranged by color or anything - just chronologically, I believe. Several frames hang in her first floor/guest bathroom. She gets lots of comments on them as people do look at them and remark that they too saw the same concert or play, She recently added additional frames because people do take the time to look at them.

They've been doing this for 2 decades...isn't it time for the kids to grow up and send their own cards? Can't imagine what their friends think as this continues. It's weird.

Why does anyone care if a single person gets the discount? The store still gets a sale. It's a white lie -- no one gets hurt.

I recently got rid of solidly built couch to make room for a new couch...I know how you feel even though I no longer wanted the old couch in my family room, I would have kept it if I had a spare room.

Somebody should start a cabinet exchange service -- somebody out there probably has white cabinets they hate and would have gladly traded for your before.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For every person who hated the before, there's somebody out there who loves the look. No matter what you do, someone else will want to change it..and our own tastes may change too. It looks nice, but I didn't hate the before.

How much are glass domes new? I see - and donated one - cheap gold plastic clocks with a glass dome on top at Goodwill all the time for about 3 or 4 bucks, depending on who is pricing and what location. You might even get one on freecylce.

Take what you LOVE or can't afford to replace now -- if you can afford to move it (such as a local move.) If your mattress is getting old or is not comfortable, and you can afford new, replace it now. Don't pay extra to move anything you hate and could live without.
