I've come searching posts on retina MBP's. This was very interesting to come across. Maybe it's the power user in me, but the space estimates are far too low. The rMBP will be my first Apple, I'm only buying it because I'm about to do a 1 year Graphic Design diploma and I need to learn OSX at some point.

I think 256gb is fine for my needs. However around my desk and my house I have countless external HDD. I've lived with laptops as my main computers for 6-8 years, so naturally I've collected a lot of HDD. I also collect movies and tv shows so they take up massive amounts (blu-ray size movies are 10-13 GB). I have a few NAS's with 2-4TB each and they either full or 1/2 full.

I think it's rather pathetic of Apple to remove the upgrade options of RAM & HDD other than at purchase. I may be biased as a PC user, but I see it as blatant grab for money by scaring people into buying the bigger drive and the most RAM possible. I've upgraded all my laptops with RAM or HDD/SSD, Apple can do it because people will still buy it. I'll be ordering mine with the 16GB and 256GB, I wont enjoy buying this laptop but I dont have a lot of choice.

Mainstream sources aside, did the author even check the dates on the links articles? The TechRadar link was full of links to previous "best of" lists, such as 10 best alternative Android apps ... written on July 19th 2010.

The new Quad-core CPU is said to be 20% more efficient over the SGS2 so I think we'll be surprised at the battery. Samsung had also made a claim late 11, early 12 that their upcoming Smartphones would last 24 hours.

The S Beam will also utilise Wifi for larger files

I had a Nokia n70 in 2005 that had video calling over 3G ... FaceTime has more to do with the past then the future. Siri is cool though

I hate Skype, consumer Internet in Australia has a long way to go before this is useful. And so often my phone plans include free calls and now free SMS.

GPS is great, 3D printers are the future. But I still want my levitating skateboard dammit

I've only ever tried 8tracks and like it a lot. I might give some of the others a go. Surprised to see 8tracks hardly mentioned, it also now has an Android app available.

So sunspot42, it's now the amount of data either company collects that creates a problem and not that they do at all? In the entire time I've been using Google services (5 years), my data being sold (if it even has) has never caused me a problem. I've never woken up or walked out my door and thought 'oh shit, look whats happened to my data'.

I love how Apple people take the slight problems with Apple and excuse it, yet amplify for Google.

If it's a beta product, they shouldnt be creating ads for it and they shouldnt be touting it as the biggest thing for the 4S.

Incidentally, a bunch of devs at dexetra have created Iris for android. It works OK. But the killer is from start coding to delivery to Market = 8 hours ... and they've been releasing updates daily. It may be copying Apple, and they may get heat from Apple, but 8 hours. Besides, I've been able to do voice search and type with different apps and keyboards on Android for 12 months.

Why is that because you can tweak the android UI, it isn't considered "finished" by iOS people? If I dont want any widgets I dont use them. Often what I run on my phone is 3-4 different screens that I swipe between, my main screen as a very simple clock with weather and a simple set of switches such as wifi, BT, GPS or wifi hotspot. My other screens often have quick dials to best friends and family members and my SMS/emails.

I have 2 docks that I can swipe across also with 5 icons on each as well as swipe gesture up to open another app or bookmark ... this is how I hide my Facebook app from getting fraped by my friends. This dock means I dont need 100s of icons cluttering up my screen.

The point is, Android lets you do what you want to do, Apple tells you what you're going to do. Some of my non-tech friends have Android and I show them what they can do, sometimes they dont love it, sometimes they say oh wow thats cool. They arent given that option with iOS, and I'm talking about stock Android stuff.

I love it, but one problem. Keys will get chucked into bags, clicker will get snapped off and Ethernet keychain will fall out of the socket. Dont think I have many cables at home that arent missing the click part.

My 180GB iPod rocks, and I really have no interest in any other MP3 player. Anything else Apple can go jump, anything looks good when covered in shiny metals. I love the way Apple look and thats it.

I'm a nerd so I love playing with new ROM's on my Android, I love that I can install apps from outside the Market. Most of my mates just want a phone for calling, sms, FB, twitter, apps. Yet they wouldnt care how much better Android might be. Apple to me is a better marketing and design company than a technology company.
