Lots of entitled 90s-era Gen Xers (and older) post on here I see. In America in this day and age, steady income is not a guarantee, home values are not a guarantee and certainly INCREASING income beyond inflation (if it's even possible anymore) are not a guarantee. I saw food & water bowls and a very tidy litter box, but no kitty. I was waiting for a picture with a kitty init! Andrew & Eric Find a Place for Everything House Tour |

I really like Chris's use of space, color and materials. Some of those tables are gorgeous. Chris' Industrial "Dreamer's Dream" Loft House Tour |

I never understand the 1 thing. Does that mean that they're closeted and don't want the fact that they live with their partner (who I assume has a name) published online? Or is it just that they live with a pet (in which case 1 is not 1, but rather 1 PET)? Either way, it's sad -- that even though they're featured on a prominent design website, they can't include their life partners, or that they consider a dog/cat as a 1. I really like their apartment (or what I can see of it), but I would really like lots of thoughtful, artistic peoples' apartments... Many of us have smart, warm, attractive design sensibilities. What I don't understand is why they got an entire feature in the NY Times for this place, cute though it may be. Jeff Colby's Mostly Mid-Century The New York Times | Apartment Therapy New York |

junowl -- I'm with you on the ornamentation in the Netherlands being much more intricate than that in Germany, but I don't think it has anything to do with how closely you look. It has instead much more to do with most 17-19th century German architecture being bombed to smithereens during WWII... leaving lots of cheap mid-century boxy quick-builds to fill the holes. Second picture for sure. If you plan on staying there long, and have some room in your budget, I'd also ditch the sectional and get a slimmer 3-seat couch and a small arm chair or two. And also paint over the green. Help! Which Layout is Better? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

Have something relaxing or funny on in the background -- i.e. upbeat music you like, DVDs of a TV show, comedy CDs, etc. Keep the mood (like DodieGoldney says) light. Something about pleasant voices in the background helps my focus when I'm doing something like taping/painting walls. 5 Ways To Keep Your Sanity While Doing Projects | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

Where is this "Lost" house supposed to be set? Region, not just decade, plays a big role in decor. If it's somewhere tropical, I think the "Golden Girls" house is quintessential 80s (at least in TV land...). My parents were still grad students in the 80s and couldn't afford anything current, so my only connection to 80s decor is through TV. Very generally, I would say "Golden Girls" for warmer regions, "Cosby Show" and "Who's the Boss" for temperate urban/suburban areas. Either way, these "Lost" photos don't look right.
