Not sure about the felt -whether as the base fabric with something on top - however this gives me an idea for my dining room where I was going to do pocket doors. Far less construction and cost and if you get the right fabric you've got almost an art piece - the point of it is to cut down noise between LR and kitchen (DR is between LR and kitchen) when homework or office work is going on in one spot and TV etc in another, or if someone's sleeping on the fold out couch, this is perfect for privacy.

What a good dad, and a lucky kid. The perfect way to spend 15 minutes while somebody gets lunch or dinner on the table.

This is perfect for a 2 year old! Great rainy or cold day activity too, and builds balance and core strength. Sure beats watching Nick Jr all day.

People "upcycle" because we have to - notice the economy?- not because it's "trendy." Otherwise, Top Ramen - what a trendy meal for the under employed!

I've seen cement floors and counter tops recently here in Houston and you never saw that before. Again, this seems to be less an artsy trend than people trying to capitalize on that and save money on putting in a new carpet or linoleum, or granite counters.

To me these look like they are waiting for the fabric having just received the stuffing. The thing that was nice about the original chair is its clean lines which are totally deformed by this treatment. I can think of a dozen ways to cover that Ikea chair, any of which would be preferable to this.
Where the moving blanket might come in handy on such a small piece would be in a child's room, however the fact they've stapled it on rather than slipcovered it makes it unwashable, therefore: no.
This does look like an art "piece" however in an apt or small home we need our furniture to function as well as look good and this doesn't nail it for me. This chair would be perfect with different slipcovers for different seasons, courderoy, sheepskin or flannel, floral, in a bold beachy stripe around a patio table... all the ways to dress a chair and they come up with this... looks like when you acidentally send a new tampon through the washing machine and dryer.

Ikea did have though, a plastic molded chair with stainless legs that was not dissimilar to the one in the splurge photo above, Can't find it online but I thought they were about $75 apiece and would make a relatively inexpensive stand in while you save to get something nicer. I don't think the Kohl reissue chairs were all that high especially given the quality of their stuff. I was also surprised to find pretty cool modern stools at Lamps Plus of all places. So happy this came back into style - I can pay for some of it by not replacing my nice-enough laminate kitchen counters with granite as I had planned to do.

If only the problem with Ikea furniture was to be solved in careful assembly. I have yet to seen any hold up to normal life regardless of who put it together including their own installation people, my brother the licensed contractor in his own home, etc. The laminate peels off - it's cheap, (not just inexpensive but rickety) it doesn't matter how careful you are, it often doesn't survive even the trip home without damage.
My artist/professor aunt had the Saarinen stuff when I was growing up and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I'm trying to get the best of both worlds this way: I've got a 48" diameter heavy glass top on my current table and will invest $490 in a restaurant grade chrome or stainless pedestal base. Trying to find the real chairs on ebay or will buy knock offs til I can afford the real thing.
