while I absolutely love Ikea and it's abundance of smart small space storage solutions (yay alliteration!), some of these just seem rather silly to me. That laptop behind the Bygel rail? Seriously? Who in their right minds would store their laptop like that? Who would prefer an extremely awkward looking headboard contraption behind a sofa to a narrow bookshelf or wall shelves? And what on earth would you use a wheeled countertop that is about four inches off the floor for, no matter how conveniently it tucks underneath your sofa?

oh god. I would gladly sell my soul for that CAKE!

Oh, god. I've spent not one, but two decades in the seventies. My parent's house (a one-story ranch!) was built in the seventies and they're both not at all interested in interior design, so they haven't really ever updated anything in there... avocado green bathrooms? check. Wall-to-wall carpet, ALSO avocado green? check. All rooms painted either yellow or red? check. Terracotta tile in the hallway and in the kitchen? check. Dark green countertops in the kitchen? check.

I'm hunting for my first own apartment right now, and I suppose it's no surprise that I'm specifically looking for a place with white walls, white or stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, hardwood or laminate floors and A GODDAMN ALL WHITE BATHROOM.

Don't get me wrong, I love color. POPS of color, not explosions.

I CAN'T WAIT to finally move into my first own apartment in the fall and yes, it's going to be teeny-tiny, probably around 200-300 square feet (not just because I'm on a serious budget, but also because I LOVE small spaces). And because I cringe at the thought of cluttering up a tiny studio apartment with too much furniture, I'm thinking of skipping the big honking couch and the bulky armchairs and only getting a nice comfy hammock chair... and one of those big hammocks that can hold the weight of four or five people so that I will have plenty of seating for guests on the one hand but something that can easily be stashed away in the closet when I don't need it on the other hand. Since the rest of my furniture is very modern with clean lines and my color scheme is entirely black and white (I have my eyes set on a black hammock chair, and a white hammock), I hope that things won't end up looking beachy or college-y... I'd hate for that to happen.

I'm sorry this got so long, I'm just really enthusiastic about hammocks :) love 'em!

dude... I'm all for teeny tiny apartments, but I am feeling claustrophobic just imagining sitting on the sofa and not being able to stretch out my feet and having to stare at that wall all day. It really does look like you live in a hallway. Hats off to you though.

OMG I am in so love with this, I have been trying to find a similar solution for years now and I can't believe I never thought of those Ikea shelves! GENIUS! this is so perfect. I believe we have a winner!

oh my god... I love your bedroom! It's so beautiful, calm and serene. You've got what I like to call the "luxurious zen spa look" right down ;) so inspirational. I want to redo my bedroom now!

Seriously?! How ignorant can you get? It's spelled P-O-V-E-R-T-Y.

Of course this is tragic, but I think it's amazing that she does this to be able to save as much money as she possibly can to provide for her family. I can't even think of one person I know who would be willing to do this.

Sure, it's claustrophobic and coffin-like. But like the article says, I would take this over living in the slums hours away from where I work any day.

And OF COURSE the trade-off is worth it. I'd take spending 7 % of my income on a closet over spending 20 % of my income on a tiny shoebox of an apartment that I have to share with my roommate any day.
