Megan: What are some examples of malted milk powder in savory cooking? I've never thought of using it for anything except sweet stuff.

This is why The Kitchn readers are awesome -- thanks for all the responses! So far I think the tray is winning in my book, but I'll look more into the pastry wheels and the roller since I didn't consider them much before. Keep those opinions coming. :)

I haven't tried all of the pumpkin ales listed so I'm no expert, but I recently picked up Punk'n Harvest Pumpkin Ale from Uinta Brewing and am really enjoying it (http://www.uintabrewing.com/brews.php -- love all their labels, too!). It's subtly spiced with a hint of pumpkin on the finish.

Sounds like something Dwight Schrute would make! I've never had it, but I love beets -- sounds good!

Not only does it look delicious (wonderful photography!), but I can add that I sometimes make something similar with avocado and almond milk (more of a smoothie consistency) and it *is* delicious. :)

@Tazer -- Hidden Villa is where I first learned about miner's lettuce a few years ago! My friend worked there and took me on a hike, and it was growing all along the trails. She's the one who told me that it was edible.

Hi Joan -- as I said above, one of the protein sources I use is pasteurized egg whites, so yeah, cracking an egg would also be a great idea (I just go for the pasteurized egg whites for peace of mind wrt salmonella).

Obviously PB in a smoothie like that would be a bit weird, but this is how I used it:

-milk (nonfat or almond, usually)
-cottage cheese
-egg whites
-PB
-unsweetened cocoa powder
-banana
-espresso powder (optional)
-ice cubes

Delicious, and high in protein!

I stopped using protein powder once I read this:

Arsenic? No thanks. I now stick to adding nonfat cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, pasteurized liquid egg whites, and/or peanut butter for my protein smoothies.

I don't think blondies have any chocolate, white or otherwise. They get their flavor from butter, vanilla, and brown sugar.

I've made marshmallows many times with a hand mixer (it's only a couple years old, though, so maybe it's just the older ones that aren't powerful enough).
