Mayhaps a little bow around the heads would solve that screw top issue.

Wow...everybody is a critic. Everyone is so concerned that it doesn't exactly resemble the inspiration piece, that they're minimizing that it no longer resembles an Ikea piece. I think you did a lovely job.

This is actually a very good tip, but it does take some commitment, time and energy to execute it. However, it will pay off in the long run. There are very obvious things that you should keep a hard copy of ... Wills, Deeds to your home, etc. It is a lot easier to have a digital copy handy when you need to refer to a document quickly since, in theory, your original should be stored in a safe deposit box somewhere. The last time I moved (across the country) I put everything important into digital format and keep it on a jump drive, I keep the original documents in a safe deposit box, and I gave an additional digital copy on a jump drive to a family member. I keep other important records on my computer's hard drive in digital format as well, like health records, or pet records, thus minimizing paper records. Once the big part of the job is done, it's a very simple system to maintain. Didn't you once have thousands of CD's that are now all stored on your MP3 player?

I realize I'm one diagnosis away from being considered OCD myself, but my life is extremely well-organized and that keeps other areas of my life simple.

I have an APP on my phone called "Keyring" ... I scan all my club cards to it thereby eliminating the need for 6,423 cards on my keychain, or in my wallet. This APP often times has special offers direct from the retailers as well.

I also have an APP called "Paper Karma" to which I scan all unwanted mailers and flyers. Paper Karma then make arrangements to have my contact information removed minimizing my junk mail.

I keep original important documents (deeds, insurance policies, my Will, and such) in a safe deposit box with copies of everything scanned onto a jump drive for easy access. Also on that jump drive is the contents of my wallet, any bank account information, and copies of past tax returns. I keep it hidden in a special place and only 2 people are aware of its existence ... in the event of an untimely demise, don't make your family have to put together the puzzle pieces of your life.

And, much like "Beckestra" above, I have condensed all "necessary to keep around" documentation into 2 small file boxes (my pet's records, my car records, health records, etc) that can not only be accessed easily, and moved around easily.

Oh ... and I am undoubtedly OCD ...

5 Ways to Stay (Financially) Organized

I collect Mr. Potato Heads and cookie cutters. They both make whimsical and charming displays in my kitchen, without taking over my life, and undoubtedly are worth little to nothing.

Yeah, not to minimize the delightfulness of this kitchen reno ... but I was slightly underwhelmed after all the hype

You had me at "Adam Wallacavage chandeliers" ...although I must say, for having such an extensive collection, everything is clearly strategically and very well placed.

Most people that move to LA on a whim are gone in under a year ... that being said, most people that move out here with ambitions are gone in under a year. If LA doesn't like you, it will send you home - but not before it has chewed you up and spit you out. If you're bound and determined and have a job lined up, a solid savings, or a back up plan, jump in with 2 feet. It's not the sort of community that embraces you right away, so it helps if you know even one person out here. I stand strong in my advice that if you don't have at least 6 months of savings, or strong contacts out here to guide you and assist you in getting a job, you could be very disappointed and broke very quickly.

As far as where to plant yourself, Long Beach is awesome, it's also an hour away on a good day. While Hermosa and Redondo Beaches are closer to downtown LA and Hollywood, they are expensive typically and can also be an hour away depending on traffic.

If you're artistic and hip ... Silverlake or Los Feliz are good target areas and are right next door to each other.

I don't know of anybody that is thrilled living in Pasadena. It's sort of a "destination anywhere" sort of town.

Burbank and Toluca Lake are not only charming neighborhoods, but safe and within walking distance of many amenities and you're bound to find something in your price range.

Don't discount the valley...Studio City and Sherman Oaks are affordable and a quick drive into Hollywood or downtown LA. Keeping in mind, however, that during rush hour, driving even 6 miles can take you over an hour.

West Hollywood is primarily 20-somethings to 30-somethings and while it is appealing to many...the novelty wears off with a quickness.

I think you've received a decent amount of good advice thru this thread ... but tread lightly ... LA is no Chicago. Best of luck!

My boyfriend and I have lived together for years. We have separate bedrooms because we both decided it was important to have a space that is exclusively your own. We do, however, sleep together nearly every night, and his room is primarily the "guest bedroom". But when one of us is sick or has to get up unreasonably early and doesn't want to disturb the other, we at least have the option of another bedroom. He also, hilariously, treats "my" bedroom as if he's visiting, and takes anything he's brought into the room back to his room the next morning. With this arrangement we both always get a good night sleep no matter what the circumstances, and we both respect each other's space.

I've used 96" curtain panels as shower curtains a myriad of times...get the tab top ones and they slip right over a curtain rod.

I'm sad for you Chloe...you clearly have a design sense as evidenced by the items in the background of the picture...although it is hard to see past that abomination...my best advice is comb Craig's List for an economical replacement...or hit your local thrift store and trade it in for a better model. ...Poor thing, hang in there...

I'm not familiar with the actual piece, but in keeping with a mid-century modern theme, you could fill those holes with wood filler, or afix a round plywood circle that any local home improvement store is likely to cut for you to your specifications.

You could then paint just the top using acrylics and a faux-marble technique.

Or revamp the entire table by using a darker base coat as a primer (I've been known to sweet talk local hardware store guys to tint Kilz ... with the promise that I know what I want to do with it and I have no intentions of returning the $7 can) and then finish the entire piece with a poly/stain combo.
